Yes the place is a bit run down and the accommodation is basic but I saw no evidence of the 'bug infestation'. Great location and friendly staff. Free access to the gym and free breakfast (don't forget to ask). Only downside there isn't a bathroom on every floor so might be a bit of a trek but not the end... More

I had a lovely time in the YMCA, but you have to be used to backpackers and see through the dirt a bit. We arrived late at night only to find out that the YMCA has messed up our booking and had booked us a room in Queens YMCA. They did not have any twin rooms left....So after a lot... More

I'm a fan of the YMCA and its staff, but after being in bed for less than an hour on my first night at Greenpoint last night I woke up covered in bites and discovered bugs all over the bed. Spent the rest of the night pacing the room (it was 3am and raining, and Greenpoint YMCA does not have... More

I lived in Greenpoint for a number of years and went back recently to visit. It's a wonderful little place with real character thanks to the local Polish culture. The same can not be said for the Y however. There are just too many negatives to list; including rats, dirty rooms and dodgy guests. Stay anywhere else but here.

I cannot think of enough bad things to say about the ymca ( or the y as many call it with a look of pity on their faces ) Many of the rooms are let to welfare residents or the homeless, making the place feel like a psychiatric ward at times, seriously - many look like junkies and prisoners or... I believe that it s necessary for me to contribute to this page so that a fair asessment is taken into consideration by others who are looking for somewhere to stay while in NY city. I saw all the negative reviews and comments about how filthy the place was and felt quite disturbed since I had already committed myself and... More

you can stay in a small but perfectly adequate single room with shared bathrooms, for half the cost as the uptown manhattan y. the staff here are great, all of the gym facilities, plus you're in the great polish/hipster neighbourhood of greenpoint, 15 minute walk to bedford L station smack in the middle of wburg (and then 10 minute train... Wouldn't recommend this hostel at all. The furnishing was very old and the rooms were not clean at all. Not to mention the very dirty bathrooms. Nevertheless the staff was very nice and helpful, which unfortunately can't make up for the bad state of the rooms.Had to stay there one night because it was already too late to get from... More

i arrived from a very important meeting. i had many documents in my briefcase. i put the briefcase down on the "bed" (actually was a pile of garbage bags with a sheet over it) and went to use the "bathroom" down the hall. the bathroom was covered with bedbugs and i could hardly loosen my bolo before i was swarmed... I read the reviews here that said "Bedbugs! Squalor! Mice! Cockroaches!" and I thought to myself, "I am a tough, savvy individual and I need somewhere to stay. I'll just check the room before I put the suitcase on the ground." So, like an idiot I booked the place. Even managing to book was a miracle in itself considering the... More
