The Gardner offers perfectly adequate hostel accommodation, but it was the weird and wonderful old building and the friendliness of the staff that really made for a memorable stay. One thing I would wholeheartedly recommend would be to go on one of staff member Antonio's tours, if he's still offering them; our day trip to White Sands, which included innumerable...

Passed through El Paso when travelling with my friend last summer. Since this was the only hostel we could find we didnt really have a choice but to stay here! Hated the experience from start to finish, found the main reception guy inappropriate, aggressive and almost menacing....no exageration. Horrible room, lonely corridors and the only other guests appeared to be...

First, I have not overnighted in this hostel-El Paso is my home! But, I am a life HI-AYH/IYHF have travelled the world extensively, staying primarily in hostels, both solo or with my family. I KNOW what a great hostel is composed of, and the Gardner meets all of those standards. Specifically, it has a classic 1920s facade and interior. During...

A great hostel in a vintage hotel! I stayed in the dorms so the room was extremely inexpensive for the night. Also the hotel features an entertainment lounge down in the basement which had pool tables,...

again. The lobby is the best thing about the place. Cleaning was less than adequate.
The beds in the 2 different rooms for me were downright uncomfortable;...

The Gardner has a great deal of period charm. I booked by stay because it was billed as an "International Youth Hostel." Unfortunately, it turned out to be an SRO hotel for itinerant men. I was awakened in the middle of the night by a man who violently pounded on my door, screaming in Spanish. He then moved on to...

Two things anyone contemplating a stay at the Gardner should keep in mind is that it's an old 1920s hotel; i.e., no sushi bars or saunas, and that being primarily a hostel, there's no offstreet parking.
After being told when I phoned my reservation there was parking, upon arrival I found there was none. I parked in a ramp a...
