My date(s) of stay were much earlier than June of 2007. I actually stayed there in 1999, and again in 2000. In those days, hanging on the wall in the lobby, were a series of b&w photos...circa 1912. The photos featured primarily, seaman. They had just arrived in Manhattan. They were some of the survivors of the Titanic tragedy. Atop... More

Do not stay here. Unless@ - you like drug-addicted prostitutes and drug dealers on your doorstep - the worst sized and poorest quality rooms you will ever experience - the fear of death being overwhelming I could go on but what's the point? read some of the reviews here and you will know I'm right...

a proper grimey hotel. very cheap and you get what you pay for in NYC. great location and a fab area of new york. bring your own pillow or buy one for a couple of bucks and there are some great food places locally. not recomended for couples or the single woman as it is a bit rough in that... More

I spent a week at Hotel Riverview and it was everything I expected. Rooms were tiny but cheap. Location is amazing. The hotel still has a hint of old-time New York that welcomes the ones who don't belong to any other city. Amazing mixture of personalities from all walks of life.

By a conservative estimate, I've probably stayed at The Riverview at least 100 days over the past 11 years. I've stayed there during the summer, I've stayed there during the winter. I've stayed on every floor but the 2nd ( which is where the best showers and toilets are located, by the way). I do not hail from a third... More

I never stayed at the Hotel Riverview but live in the neighborhood. Believe all the negative reviews. This place is downright scary. There are drug addicts and transgender prostitutes that frequent here. I always feel sorry for the unknowing tourists I see arriving outside this hotel. STAY AWAY!

we had to buy thick blankets first to lie upon, because the place was so filthy and the scheets holeridden and disgusting. We had already paid for 3 nights, but checked out in the morning anyway(without a refund). My friend was bitten by bedbugs in his room, I was lucky. Pay a little bit more and stay somewhere else(anywhere).

Unfortunately, New York doesn't offer much in the way of budget accomodations. Hotel Riverview is one of the few places you can crash for a reasonable price. You won't, however, feel as if you've received a bargain. Let me describe the experience for you. At the check-in desk you'll be treated either rudely or with indifference You'll have to speak... feces on the bathroom floor, scary local tenant with hideous glares...and thats just the beginning. Coming from Europe, female and a grad student, I called the hotel beforehand and booked my room and regreted it painfully. A very scary place to return to after a night out --even scary to leave in the mornings with your stuff still in it.... More

I feel so sorry for the out of towners. How are they to know that a hotel fraught with drug addicts, prostitutes, welfare SRO's with tons of criminal activity exists in such a charming neighborhood? Forget how small and dumpy the rooms are. Forget the disgusting nature of the horrific shared bathrooms. This place is quite dangerous. I lived there... More
