I stayed here a few months ago, I love the place, actually I stayed here years ago too and has always been a nice place with a great location! It's on the main downtown street and has lots of restaurants outside the door, if you are backpacking but still want a great, clean place to stay this is it.

Nice staffs, pretty good beds, at a great location. The interior is pretty cool too. You may want to join some of those tours and events they offer to make your stay more fun! Easy access to many sights through transportation. Nice restaurants and bars around it. You gotta stay here when you visit San Diego!
