Choices of places to stay are thin in this area. We were a little disappointed with the quality of the place, a bit dated and scruffy. Most of the other guests were workmen driving trucks who all left noisily very early for work. Breakfast was a bit synthetic....but it was ok. Very unreliable internet connection.
Our family and friends stayed at the Water Wheel in in Gunnison Colorado in September 2011. We probably booked half the hotel for our family wedding. Once upon a time I feel certain that the Water Wheel was a nice place to spend some leisurely time............but not any more. Check out the new Holiday Inn Express just up the road.
We've stayed here before and it is an okay place to stay. It is not convenient to walk into town at all but the restaurant next door is very good but not open for breakfast. Upgrade to a room with a view of the golf couse - it is a beautiful way to wake up in the morning. The "hot" breakfast had nothing that was hot (except toast) and no juice. The internet in the room had issues. BUT, we can forgive all of that because of the peaceful setting (love the ponds) and the...

First, there is no water wheel at the Water Wheel Inn. There are a couple of "ponds" that seemed more like mosquito breeding grounds (although I didn't notice a great deal of mosquito activity). There was no wifi in the room. The balcony of the room had ratty, torn astro-turf and no chairs. Breakfast was too sweet Safeway muffins (still...

A good old standby for Gunny. needs an update. The wifi signal was very weak!
Although this place sounds good on paper, we were dismayed with our stay. We drove to Gunnison, Colorado for an overnight to enjoy the Cattlemen's Days and didn't get to our room till early evening. Although they advertise 'free wii-fi' in every room there wasn't any in our room. When calling the office, we were told we'd have to come...
