3.5 stars.. pros: they provide a small continental breakfast in the morning, which was nice. had some pretty good muffins.. i stayed in the room called "big bertha". rooms are nicely decorated and staff are very friendly. parking is only $20 which is good, cuz most hotels in San Fran area are minimum $40 cons: hotel is rather small so... Nicely appointed rooms for the price - nice and close to Market Street. Didn't eat here so can't comment - plenty of food places in the surrounding blocks though.

This is NOT your father's Best Western......but then again, we ARE talking 7th & Mission in "bawdy yet refined" San Francisco! So just be ready for a dose of eccentric and eclectic trappings in the edgy east end of SoMa, and you should be happy here.....especially at this price point. The hotel is just 48 rooms, with no expansive lobby... More

I stayed at this nicely-renovated older building in early November, 2011. I wanted a place that was within walking distance of the War Memorial Opera House, but that also had on-site parking. The concept of the newly-decorated rooms is to name each after a locally-famous personality and to decorate each room in a different manner to reflect on that person.... More

I Loved the location. The room was small, but cozy...good for the price, I booked online in advance. The down fall was the price of parking. We parked across the street and paid $25 for the night. It was raining and the directions on the meter weren't clear. So we ended up paying the meter twice. But normally it would... More

The Carriage Inn is my favorite place to stay in a city full of over priced terrible accomodations. Newly renovated and houses a very friendly staff that's happy to help. The only drag is that it is just off Market St and can be a rough area. If you're renting a car (usually only $10 a day!) then no worries... More

I saw the pictures of the rooms on their website and knew I had to stay here. But I was torn between the equally newly renovated Americania across the road, so I split my time between the two hotels. They are owned by the same company. There are not as many facilities at the Carriage Inn as the Americania, but... More

Place was clean and service was great. It was relatively centrally locate to places to eat and public transportation. Parking was also pretty reasonable. Would stay here again on another weekend trip.

FIRST, Let me begin by posting that as we were looking for the Carriage Inn on 7th Street, we spotted the BEST WESTERN sign, which has always been a welcoming sight, especially after a long drive. As I drove into the parking garage and went into the lobby, I encountered two women at the desk one of whom simply stated,... More

We've stayed at the Carriage Inn several times, and have never been disappointed. The rooms are clean, comfortable, with a quirky decor where nothing in the room matches anything else, but it all seems to work. There's even a old typewriter with a sheet about the SF writer your room is named after. (Minor point, but staying in a room... More
