I just had a late night dinner and drinks with some friends at the University Club. There is a wonderful, classic club atmosphere here, with fellow members greeting one another. I had a caesar salad with shrimp, followed by a braised lamb shank. Both were excellent. I had glasses of several different reds from the bar's wine list, and all... More

Was recently in San Francisco during fleet week and could not get into any of our regular hotels, so tried the University Club. Was pleasantly surprised. This is a post-1906-earthquake building at Powell and California which has been well-maintained. Rooms are as one would expect: good- sized, somewhat dated, very clean, limited storage and closet space, small but adequate bathroom.... More

I spent four nights at the end of August and found the aesthetics of all of the spaces to be nice. There was only a view of the alley from the main floor. Because of the lack of a/c , windows had to be left open and even with the celing fan on the room remained too warm and loud?... More

I was there on business and is a very classy hotel - rooms not massive but had everything I needed for a great stay. The lobby and exterior is majestic - room was clean and decorated nicely. I would stay there again

The University Club is like having your own mansion at the top of Nob Hill. This classic has newly renovated rooms with an old school charm. The price is great, the restaurant is fantastic and the staff are pleasant and friendly. There are world class squash courts and a gym owned by the Club just next door so there's never... More

My friends got married here, and while it was a beautiful venue, stunning really, the hotel part was nothing short of awful. I've stayed at other Nob Hill hotels, such as the Mark Hopkins, and The University Club is not even close to being in the same league. Here is a bulleted list of the issues: -Noise! There were several... More

I like using private clubs when I can. They are friendlier that hotels, often have unusual services and distinctive decors. The University Club is no exception. Very pleasant room. Nice Continental Breakfast. Very decent price for Nob Hill. Parking is either across the street for a fortune of around the corner. Bring your squash gear, the pro will happily arrange... More

It was my first stay at the University Club on Nob Hill, for two nights in March. I was a bit skeptical as I have overnighted from time to time in the University Club system which can be a poor experience. However, what a pleasant surprize! The rooms had been recently updated and had nice amenities, even for a historical... More

If you want a fancy hotel room to while away your time in - this is not the place. If you want a decent and clean hotel room in the best possible location in San Francisco - you'll love this place. Yes - the building exudes all of the charm that only a 100 year old building can - but... More

My wife and I are members of the Yale Club in New York City, a wonderful facility. On a recent business trip to San Franciso we decided to try another university club lodging experience and booked a room at the University Club of San Francisco on Nob Hill. We quickly learned that not all university clubs are created equal. On... More
