In terms of location, the Chancellor hotel couldn't get any better - (a) just a few minutes walk from the Powell St. BART station (which goes to / from the airport), (b) on union square so very near Westfield Shopping centre and also a nice enough area and (c) on the Fisherman's Wharfcable car route. It's also near a lot... More

I am very sorry for the miscommunication on the pillow request. It should not take 3 requests to get anything - EVER. I don't know what happened, but I will look into it and speak with the desk staff. I appreciate that our one shortfall did not sour the overall visit and you will be back again. Let me know... More

The hotel is very close to Union Sq.The cable car runs in front of the hotel. You can buy public transport tickets in the lobby-area (opens at 9 am) or in the Walgreens on the corner. A lot of places to eat and drink close to the hotel. Stayed here in April. Rooms are of normal, European, size. The hotel... More

I've gone to the chancellor for more than a decade. In my experience, service--especially front desk and housekeeping--is consistently excellent. The place opened in 1914 so most rooms are small (but they have big ones) & there is no air conditioning. Neither one has ever been a problem to me. The rooms are consistently clean and bright, bathrooms impeccable, and... More

I booked the Chancellor Hotel based on Trip Advisor reviews and was not disappointed. It is a quaint hotel located right in the heart of Union Square. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Although the rooms were small, they were clean and comfortable. My only complaint was the noise from nearby construction that came through our open window at... More

Stayed here for five days in May and was very impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms, the interior of the hotel, and the service we received. We choose offsite parking that is about a two minute walk around the corner to save some $$ which was not terribly bad as we only used our car twice during our stay.... More

fantastic location across the Union Square. Very friendly service at the hotel, especially at the bar. Alicia - God Bless you !. Though the rooms are small they are well provided with. And the pillows, as all reviewers say - yes.. that is a treat ! Would definitely stay on our next visit too. Would have appreciated having a water... More

The rooms are small, but you simply cannot beat the location. Everything was clean and quiet. If you're planning on spending a lot of time in your room, then you might want to opt for something bigger, but when on vacation, chances are you won't be spending too much time at the hotel anyway. The Chancellor staff was great, breakfast... More

Thank you Kevin (the manager) for accommodating my changing agenda. Welcoming atmosphere, a touch of style and a historical feel at this hotel. The room was spacious enough for two with large suitcases (there is a large walkin "wardrobe" - a separate room really) A lovely welcoming bottle of wine and chocolates for our anniversary :) As it is obviously... Was at the Chancellor on 23rd for 7 nights. Requested for higher floor and was given the top floor, which was great for peace and quiet, plus partial view of Union Square. Good service from all hotel staff and it was useful to have an efficient tour desk in the hotel. Very convenient location with the cable car right in... More

We stayed here in September, and I was initially worried because there was no air conditioner. However, although it would have been nice, it wasn't as bad as I expected. The hotel was nice, the rooms were small, but it was close to everything and an amazing location. Very good hotel for the price.
