My wife and I stayed here for a few days in October. We had never been to the area. This was a great location for walking to the "harbor" area, but far enough away from the bustle that it was quiet and removed. Easy in and out to Acadia and all the surrounding areas, and plentiful easy parking. Good breakfast,... More

I've been to Bar Harbor many times to bike the carriage trails and hike but this was my first time staying at the Black Friar Inn. The place was very interesting and had a real laid back feel to it. Breakfast was amazing (cooked by Tom, the owner) as well as the appitizers we had on our first night there.... More

Surprisingly great 3 day stay for price! Excellent location for a quick stroll into "downtown" Bar Harbor or an easy 10 minute drive to Acadia. Tom and his friendly staff have created an environment that feels like spending a low key weekend with an out of town relative. Great job! Oh...and amazing food!

As opposed to everyone else, we simply did not find the Black Friar Inn to be particularly fabulous. Our room (#1) was worn and tired with stained carpet and furniture and an extremely outdated bathroom including a freestanding tub that has a shower curtain that clings to you with every move. Certainly the room was clean -- and that counts... More

My husband and I were so happy with our choice stay at the Black Friar Inn. Friar Tom, owner, and staff were very welcoming and easy going. The room was very comfortable and since it was on a quiet side street we could sleep with our window open with no disturbance. The food for breakfast and dinner was fabulous! Breakfast... More

My husband and I stayed in Room #5 of the Black Friar Inn while visiting Acadia National Park last month. We were so happy with our room, parking, breakfast, and of course, Tom, our Innkeeper. Parking was ample and free. We could see our car from our room. There was no need to move the car to see downtown Bar... More

Stayed here over the 4th of july weekend and loved it. Tom makes an excellent breakfast, try the french toast! We had the smallest room there and found it small but clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again for the location food and service.

We found it at the Black Friar Inn. We wanted to be out of the way, a degree of privacy, absence of clutter and noise (as in TVs in every room), quiet and peaceful during the appropriate hours, a cozy bar for gathering with fellow travelors, friendly staff and darn good food at moderate prices. The Black Friar isn't fancy.....nor... More

We cannot say enough about our trip to Bar Harbor, and it was made even better by our stay at The Black Friar Inn. We loved the accomidations (room 1). We loved the location (easy walk to any place in town yet out of the way enough to not be in the crowds). We loved Friar Tom and staff (very... More

Love this place. Stayed in room 4 which has a spiral stair case to an upper room, perfect for some quiet time to read e-mails or meditate. Nice bathroom, everything was very clean. Breakfast is amazing, absolutely delicious gourmet food. The bar is a fun place to hang out at night. Got some helpful info from the owner, Tom, on... More
