We stayed here in April 2012 for our anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed in the Pele Suite. We really enjoyed that there was a separate bedroom away from the lanai facing the ocean. The bedroom was dark and very peaceful. The bathroom was a bit small, however, we were told that it was soon to be updated, and... More

My fiancé and I really enjoyed our stay in June 2011. We stayed in the Bamboo Room which offered a spacious room and great view The breakfasts were delicious and served on the lanai with a great view of the ocean and even some passing dolphins. The hosts were very friendly and offered great suggestions on sites to visit and... More

My daughter and I stayed in the Bamboo room during the Hula Festival. I wanted to show her Hawaii and staying at Hale Kai B&B was the 'icing' on the cake! The room was very comfortable and the food was just wwesome! Ric had breakfast ready for us each morning, with fresh fruit, apricot scones, coffee, etc. The macadamian nut... More

My husband and I recently stayed in the Bamboo Room for three nights in the middle of April. Our room was very comfortable - bed was comfortable and overall the room was in great shape. It looked to have been recently redone and was very clean. Yes, there is no bathtub, but we shower anyway so that wasn't an issue... More

The parking is on a steeply sloped paved area on the street side of the house; there is just enough room for 4 vehicles. There are no lights out there. It is usually raining in Hilo. Parking in the dark in the rain on a steep slope is quite a challange. Getting out of the parking area and back to... More

My wife and I spent only 2 nights here and we loved it. Ric and Maria are friendly and fantastic hosts and the facilities are cozy and comfortable. We stayed in the Bamboo Room. The breakfasts both mornings were exceptionally good and filling. The best bonus to our visit was being greeted by all the geckos. If you're lucky you... More

Aloha Ric, My girlfriend and I stayed in the Bamboo Room 31MAR - 4APR. We loved the ocean front view that the room afforded as well as the breakfast! I enjoyed the noises of nature throughout the night (with the exception of the airplanes!) with waves crashing in the nearby shoreline, the birds, and all the insects as well as... More

This is a very good B&B. Spacious clean rooms and comfortable beds in a lovely home with 180 degree view of the ocean and excellent breakfasts. It is a very easy 5 minute drive north out of Hilo so town remains very accessible. Close to the waterfalls and Botanical Garden.

We stayed in the Pele suite for three nights and found it to be a great atmosphere for relaxation and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. I was glad we had the suite so we could use the kitchenette and sitting area for reading or keeping up on emails as well as having a small fridge for snacks. The bedroom sits back... More
