Bring your own facial tissue and bar soap if you don't want to use the hotel's provided body wash. The higher up rooms with the view are worth the higher price. The hotel's web site spells out the pricing plain and simple. If you are the type that needs a lot of bathroom noise privacy, Manago is not for you... More

The Manago Hotel, run by the same family for generations, is perfect for the budget conscious traveler. Full island exploration is easy from this small town location. The accommodations are basic, but the rooms are very clean and airy (no roaches as someone else reported in their review). Who needs a TV when the ocean view from your private lanai... More

The Manago Hotel in Captain Cook, Kona is as unpretentious as a hotel can get. The rooms have absolutely no-frills, not tv and no ac - not that you'll miss them. The one amenity is that soap is provided in the showers. The hotel is in the country, and all rooms face downhill and overlook the hotel orchard and garden,... More

The hotel is worth staying at for its location if you want to actively explore the Kona side of island. However, you have to be aware that this is not the hotel from your TV/movie based Hawaiian dream - it's an older property, where no or very little improvement must have been made during last 20 years... GOOD: location (see... More

This is a very nice older property that is very well run and very clean. The newer motle type building has a distant view of the ocean, but no TV's, which we did not miss. This was our second stay at this place and were not disapointed. It is in a rural area and the roosters will crow and wake... More

A very unassuming exterior, cozy retro interior. This could be the most unpretentious place you'll ever eat at. Four of us had lunch there. The server was really friendly and happily answered our millions of questions. She let us know which was the freshest fish and what was frozen. Nt a lot of options, don't go if you want a... More

This hotel is a slightly ramshackle-looking wooden construction on the side of a hill, which somehow manages to deliver a great experience! It is still family-run after nearly a century and it shows. The staff are all friendly and helpful, especially Dwight Manago the manager and son of the original owners. We had a family room with a double and... More

If you are looking for a basic, inexpensive ($60-70/night) hotel not far from Kona and close to Kealakekua Bay this is a good stop. It is an old (built in the 1930-40's) building and shows it's age. The hotel and restaurant are family run, and full of rustic charm. Just keep in mind this is a no frills facility. No... More

We stayed at the Manago Hotel on the Big Island, Captain Cook, in early July. The neon sign is clearly visible on the highway and we decided to drop in for an early dinner on our way to the Eastern part of the Island. Everything about the hotel is classic from the 40's and refreshingly not commercial. Unique for us,... More
