We have been staying here since the second year it opened, 1991. We spend one week in February snowmobiling, usually one weekend in the Fall, and maybe another weekend somewhere inbetween. It is right on the main N-S snowmobile trail connecting to many very nice wooded trails, and the Fall colors can be fantastic. Many good-great places for a full... More

We made our reservations for two rooms over the phone for Dec 29 & 30 something came up and we had to cancel. When we called to cancel we were told that our reservation for the 30th had already been canceled. Is this their common practice to accommodate people who want to stay longer? But after reading some of the... More

This hotel was nothing more than 'disgusting'. I was so excited to bring my boyfriend to Mercer and show him around where I grew up. Let me tell you, my choice of hotel was actually embarrasing! I reserved the "King, Hot Tub Suite". While in the hot tub, the bubbles turned brown. We had to get out of the hot... More

this hotel is advertised as 'pet friendly' but beware. the room they've assigned pet owners is stinky ... musty ... don't go there. it's right outside the bar's entrance so you get to hear the bump-bump-bump of the bass seeping through the walls at 2 a.m. bedding, linens, mattress, bathroom all are pure Motel 6. the rooms are very big,... The hotel was lovely--lobby, great room, our room. But that's as far as it goes. 1. We wanted to get a bit of supper. The only place was in the smoke filled bar. We went outside the hotel--only place non-smoking was a Subway. 2. In our room, there was a light fixture hanging from the ceiling by it's wires. 3.... More

As I sit in my nice and quiet room in the dark, using their free internet, and having been in the swimming pool and hot tub...I like this place. The rooms are very large, the staff seems friendly, I haven't had breakfast yet....but I will in the AM. I like the stuffed critters....the big bear probably the most. I am... More

My family has been staying at the Great Northern for about 10 years. The original owners when we started going were awesome and it was a very nice place to stay. It's still a great place - but like someone else said, the standards are a little lower up north. We thought we'd try a different place up north this... More

I've stayed at the Great Northern every year for the last 5 years or so. I think the hotel is about 10 years old. The 80 rooms are spacious and the rates reasonable. We paid $89/night for August. First, you have to remember that accomodations are at a different standard in northern Wisconsin. The rooms are clean. The rugs could... More
