With the majestic Flinders Ranges just to the east... Parachilna could be so easily passed by those intent of getting to Maree (Lake Eyre), but don't do that! Our small group were booked to stay here and I will be honest.. My initial thought was why? But now I know better. We were accommodated in modernized Fletter's cottages. They have... More

Unique accommodation and food in a unique location. Everyone made us feel very much at home - and there was huge attention to detail. We also did a flight over Lake Eyre which is highly recommended. The desert scenery is fantastic in itself - water in the lake is not essential. Somewhere everyone should experience.

located in the middle of nowhere (actually not far from the flinders ranges) this Hotel has great outback food - think emu, roo, goat etc prepared innovatively. The staff are great, the rooms very comfortable with all amenities and the location fascinating. altogether a great experience.

The Prairie Hotel served as a single night stop during our 4-day partly guided tour of the Flinders Ranges. It is obviously not a Parachilna Hilton and we may have been there on the wrong evening, but there was nothing here that would make anyone think of ever returning. When we arrived just after a spectacular sunset, there were actually... More

Spent a night at the Prairie Hotel as part of a tour of outback South Australia. The room that we stayed in was spacious and quite comfortable albiet a bit on the hot side until they fired up the airconditioning system. The meals were enjoyable with an emphasis on bush tucker. The feral food was a nice change from the usual whilst... More

If you plan to travel to the Prairie Hotel to experience an authentic outback pub then you will be disappointed. While outwardly original and rustic, the interior is all trendy colours and modern decor. There is some fabulous Aboriginal art for sale on the walls of the restaurant (average price of the pieces we looked at was around the $5000... More

The Prairie Hotel is definitely unique however when we arrived the whole hotel was buzzing & all of the inside tables were reserved; which really made me mad as I had asked at the Information Centre in Hawker did we need to book a table … NO they said you will be fine!! The Prairie Hotel is well known as... More

We arrived here as the sun was setting and enjoyed a beer out the front with the sun setting over the desert in front of us and the Flinders Ranges behind us. Our room was clean though small, and the menu was interesting. All in all the hotel rooms are good without being spectacular, the restaurant is fun without being... More

Comfortable stay, nice food and best coffee in the Flinders Ranges; challenge you to find another place around who uses fresh milk not that long life junk! The view is beautiful and the staff are nice.

The Prairie hotel is described as iconic – probably because it’s very hard to describe. It must have started its days as a rough outback hotel, and it’s still managed to keep that image and outward appearance – but behind the frontier frontage and bar area, there are some very comfortable rooms – but there are rooms of varying sizes....
