Every now and again something stands out so much that I take time to write a lengthy review. This is one of those times. We were lucky enough to get a last minute booking here, very lucky indeed. The house itself is beautiful, tastefully decorated, the fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality, even the door stops are top notch! The bedroom is light and airy, it has more than enough wardrobe space, with bedside units for all your bits and bobs. The bed was so comfortable, every night we drifted off to sleep effortlessly, albeit I think the Rosé wine from the honesty bar helped a little. The air conditioning in the room is silent and (when needed) excellent. The en suite shower room is fantastic, it has a powerful rainfall shower, a large sink with well lit mirror, lots of drawer space and a top notch hairdryer. According to 'she who is never wrong' these are 'must have' items and there was more than enough room for all the lotions and potions! Breakfast is wonderful! Cereals, cold meats, cheese, pastries, breads (the breads are amazing!) fresh juice, yoghurts and coffee that (on its own) will more than set you up for the day! Katia, cooks eggs, or omelette and each day the selection changes, Guy makes his own jams and marmalade and they are excellent. Everything is fresh, top quality and presented perfectly. You take breakfast on the patio overlooking the beautifully landscaped gardens with a stunning view of the mountains in the background. It is breathtaking! The gardens are immaculate, the centre piece is the beautiful swimming pool, which is we spent many a lazy hour laying beside. The sun beds and parasols, are of the highest standard and there are more than enough for everyone. There is an honesty bar within the breakfast room, chilled beers, wines, soft drinks, snacks all at (more than) fair prices! In the freezer they have ice creams, when I discovered this, that was the point I realised I was actually in heaven not in a B and B! You can order lunch or a snack with Katia or Guy. Then at the agreed time they will set a table on the patio, open a parasol to shade the table and all you have to do is drag yourself away from the pool to eat your lunch. It's a tough life! Twice a week Katia and Guy prepare a home cooked three course meal for their guests. As with everything here, it is exceptional. The Zabaglione (with a surprise) was amazing! As my waistline will confirm, I am an expert when it comes to desserts and this (as with the starter and the main course) was something special! Katia and Guy work their socks off to make this all work perfectly, it's unlike any other place we've stayed at during our travels. Both the house and gardens are spotlessly clean. It's not a hotel and it's not like any B and B I've ever stayed in, it's more a home from home. It's like staying with family, but the family that you like to stay with, not the ones that you have to stay with! They both have a lot of respect for their guests, this is reflected in the service they provide. They are wonderful friendly hosts and make you more than welcome while allowing you your privacy, which is some trick, but they pull it off perfectly! After a tough Eighteen months 'health wise' I was carried kicking and screaming into retirement and one of my friends told me I should relax and find my 'happy place'. I think I may have found it! We cannot wait to come back here! If you are looking for a base to visit the surrounding area, Finca la Toronja is perfect, I cannot see how it could be bettered, It's without doubt one of a kind, it is truly unbelievable! As with most followers of tripadvisor, I checked out the negative reviews (albeit only two) of Finca La Toronja, and to be perfectly honest some of the statements made in those reviews have left me shaking my head in disbelief. One tells of the area being unsafe and having biker gangs, that's total horse manure (I'm so polite) we stayed for ten days and each night when returning from our evening meal the road from the house to the town had the odd local taking a stroll or the occasional jogger showing the rest of us how fit they are! Non of the aforementioned were straddling a Harley Davidson but in defence of bikers everywhere, I lived on the Isle of Man for many years and some of my most memorable nights out have been in the company of bikers! My review tends to side with the other eighty (plus) five star reviews, to be honest if I could award six stars it wouldn't be enough! Our thanks to both Katia and Guy for all their efforts, we wish them every success, they thoroughly deserve it!…
