I agree with the comments from the better reviews. It IS a good place to stay. I stayed two nights, before and after some nearby canyon hikes. It was clean and quiet for a good night's sleep and the staff was nice and helpful. There is a (rocky) walkway -- so you don't have to walk the highway -- to... More

We had a really great time at the Whispering Sands. When staying there you get a discount at the local burger place just around the corner. Real cowboys wandering in with hats and spurs and the lot. Fascinating for Europeans. The area is beautifully deserted if you like that sort of thing and I do. Beautiful table mountains in three... More

We pulled up and there was the cutest little rooms kinda looked like a bunch of tough sheds all in a row. The rooms were great got a good clean feeling from them. The front desk was awesome. Free breakfast can't beat it and wifi.

We made reservations for a Friday and Saturday night. When we got there, the reservations had actually been made for Saturday and Sunday night. They were aware they had made the mistake, but they had no rooms available when we arrived Friday afternoon. They paid for our dinner at the restaurant next door, and found us a room somewhere else... More

We took a chance on this location because there wasn't very much else to choose from between Goblin Valley and Natural Bridges National Monument--and what a pleasant surprise! The room (we stayed in a cabin room) was very clean and well maintained and the beds were comfortable. The free wi-fi, which was unexpected given the location, was very serviceable. 10%... More

Considering this was in the middle of nowhere and the only place on our route that we could stay we were not expecting much given Hanksville is not the biggest of towns. What a surprise. We arrived after a full days travel to be welcomed by a lovely lady behind the reception who answered all our questions on the locality,... More

We spent one night here and found it to be clean and well maintained. My biggest complaint would have to be the heater. We turned ours off because it was too loud, but then had to listen to the neighbors. We stayed in the cabins- not really a cabin, just a set of rooms off the main hotel. Was nice... More

Hanksville is not in the middle of nowhere but it is on the edge of nowhere. What a great room for the cost----friendly and informative check-in----rooms were comfortable and clean----and wi-fi.

If you are sightseeing Capital Reef NP or the San Rafael Swell the Whispering Sands Motel in Hanksville offers a good, basic place to stay. The rooms are clean, with ac/heat, wi-fi and extra roll-away, if needed. Because the price is very good, during most weekends, this hotel is full, so book in advance. We liked the staff, very helpful... More

People don't drive into Hanksville by accident. It is not a tourist destination. I was pretty glad to see any motel open, and was quite surprised at the good rates at the Whispering Sands. Then we saw the room and were very happy with our choice. We got a clean, comfortable, spacious room with free wi-fi, fridge and everything we... More
