Nice courtyard and fountain. Outside tables to sit and eat. The hotel has been totally remodeled to it's original glory. The room was very small, but clean and updated. The hotel is pet friendly, which was great. It was also very quiet. The only disappointment was the breakfast, which was less than adequate. The restaurant in the evening was very... More

Our room was very small, but clean and comfortable. The bathroom looked like it had been remodeled and was very nice. The hotel was quiet and the receptionist who checked us in was nice, though she did not mention during check in that breakfast was included. We had to ask later that evening after we spied a waffle machine in... More

El Capitan would be on any self-respecting Texas traveler's to-do list, were it not so remote from every metro area except El Paso. It's definitely worth a night if you have the down time between San Antonio and the West, or if you're bound for Guadalupe Mountains National Park or Carlsbad. We loved the overall feel of the place. It... More

Stayed at the El Capitan on our way out and back from Austin to Tucson. We were on a trike so having a bar/resturant in the hotel was a BIG plus! Both rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Both dinners were very good and plenty of food...although priced a bit on the high side for the area. Overall... More

I had a hard time deciding what to rate the hotel. It was excellent in every way except for the trains that run by across the street from the hotel. They blew their horn about every half hour for a good portion of the evening. Fortunately they do provide ear plugs! Other than that the rooms were very nice, clean,... More

Beautiful old hotel - Very attractive room. HOWEVER, the air conditioning refused to cooperate. My husband went to the front desk in the middle of the night. No one there. We had to suffer. When we told the desk clerk in the morning, there was NO apology or reaction. She told us we'd have to stay out of the room... More

This was a one night stop on our way from Phoenix to Big Bend National Park. There are a lot of chain motels in Van Horn but we enjoy the historic hotels especially when the owners have made an effort to preserve these landmark buildings. We were greeted at the front desk by Amy who was very personable and helpful.... More

El Capitan has been an hotel, then a bank and then an hotel again. Renovation has been performed to the "old" hotel standard and, save for the air conditioning, you are really feeling in the old times. Friendly staff, clean room, good breakfast for a fair price, don't try any other place if you have to spend a nignt in... More

This is your chance to skip the big box motels situated next to every major interstate highway in America. This is your chance to experience "what it was like," and to enjoy modern conveniences such as air conditioning, a hotel dining room with a full bar and rooms with (ok, small) televisions. Motorcycle and car clubs, senior groups, girls or... More
