This place is trying to be like the Modern Hotel is Boise, ID but failing miserably. My room had no less than 4 different kinds of bugs in it (one of which was lunching on my arm when I woke up!). It was also extremely noisy due the the trains that pass very close by blowing their horns constantly all... More

The Thunderbird is an updated stylish retro roadside motel. Conveniently located to the one-blinking light town of Marfa. Clean. Retro. Comfortable. Not much more. But there is not much else in Marfa in terms of lodging. So, it's a bit pricey. There is only breakfast available on the weekend. And, the front desk is not very helpful or informed regarding... Great location, nice staff, lovely town, close to the main town area where you'll find galleris/restaurants. A bit pricy but a little less than what some of the hotels were asking. But we enjoyed our stay, the cool exterior of the hotel grounds, and there is a cool pool too.

We happened upon the Thunderbird without any real plans. It happened to be a concert weekend, so it was really busy! Everything about it is funky and modern, but funky. ( not for everyone ) . It is a motel, but, all things being equal, I would go back. It was raining, busy, concert in Marfa, we had fun! A... More

Kind of spendy for what you get, but well located to walk home from Planet Marfa, Padres or pretty much anywhere. I would add a star if they added mini-fridges and coffee makers to the rooms. Continental breakfast, but only on weekends. Can be hard to find food in Marfa on a Monday.

My husband and I chose the hotel for the great style and we heard it is THE place to stay in Marfa. So we did. While we like the minimalist style and that it is dog friendly, we found the service to be mediocre. I thought the rate was too high for what they actually offer. Also, if you're looking... More

I found this hotel online so was quite shocked when we finally pulled in. Kudos to the photographer for making an old 50s motel look like a funky, upscale, trendy stop worthy of the $175 a night fee (holiday rate). One quick glance at the platform bed, sparse furnishings, concrete floor and institutional bathroom and we quickly returned to the... More

With this hotel, I guess most times you'll get out of it what you expect. It is a bit expensive for what is a standard "motor inn" size place, but the aesthetic, design, and individuality of the hotel totally suits the art tourist vibe of Marfa. The room was minimalist rather than spartan, and considering we were there for a... More

This was perhaps the WORST hotel we have ever stayed at! And not inexpensive!! I don't know how anyone could give this place a good review. To start, the room is tiny, cold and uninviting. The one chair in the room is uncomfortable and useless. No desk, just narrow table with a lamp that is purposeless. Old tube tv hangs... More

If you make your way to Marfa and want the minimal chic experience a la South Beach, then the Thunderbird is for you. Concrete floors, a very comfortable bed, basic but adequate bath. This is not about a room to linger in, but it is comfortable. Fair warning, the train tracks run just behind the hotel, so if you are... More
