My family and I just moved to Texas and needed a place to stay while our forever home is being renovated. Upon first arrival, the room was clean, and comfortable, and I was optimistic about our stay here. Sunday night, June 13th, 2021, around 7PM, my 10 month old baby woke up from his sleep sweating. I checked the air conditioning unit and it was not working. I called the front desk multiple times and got no answer. My husband came home from work about an hour later at 8PM and went to the front office. There was a line of people outside, with either no power at all, or no AC. This incident is isolated to the hotel, we drove around and all surrounding businesses, apartments, and buildings had power. The room was beginning to get pretty warm at this point(my baby is hot natured and used to cooler temperatures) so we moved to our car and decided to drive around to calm our baby, and give the hotel time to get an electrician out to resolve the issue. By 9PM, front desk said they submitted a “work order”. Our entire room lost power. By 10PM, they said the electrician was “on their way”. At this point we stayed in the car a few more hours before moving back to our room, thinking that since the electrician was on their way hours ago, they were already there and working on the issue. My husband and baby fell asleep. I stayed awake to keep an eye on my baby- anything above 72 degrees for a sleeping baby is dangerous, because they are at in increased risk of SIDS(sudden infant death syndrome), and I am also pregnant and it’s impossible for me to sleep in such hot temperatures. By 1AM, my baby was sweating profusely and I had to get him out of there. Many other people tried to be helpful and suggested sleeping in the car- but, a baby should not sleep in the car seat for an extended period of time, as they are at risk for positional asphyxiation. On top of this, sleeping in the car with with windows down and the engine running is dangerous- carbon monoxide poisoning(yes, even if you are in an open space). I went to the front office, desperate for help. No front desk personal were to be found, instead there was a note on the door saying an electrician was “on their way”. No electrician came last night. My baby could have died. We had just gone grocery shopping, and now all of our refrigerated/frozen food must be thrown out…hundreds of dollars worth of groceries- gone. Management is unwilling or unable to see how serious this was. I have called the front desk many times this morning and no one is answering. My husband went to the front desk to get an update and no one is there. There is still no power and we have no idea when they will resolve this issue. Looks can be deceiving; I thought this would be a good temporary solution for my family, but due to lack of management and their lack of action in this serious situation, it could have cost my son’s life.…
