On the surface a lovely federation hotel in the main street of Ruthglen. However when we opened the door to the Stables Suite we were bitterly disappointed. The fittings and furniature were old and tired. Although the room had obviously been cleaned, the shabby and old decor made it feel dirty. The attached photos tell the story.

I first stayed here in 1998 or 1999 and it was just a tumble-down country pub back then. Sean and Sarah took it over about 6 years ago and have been restoring and renovating ever since. I was part of the first cycling package specifically for guys, to complement the popular "Booze Bikes and Bubbles" package for the girls. We made a booking at the Victoria Hotel one week before arriving. On arrival we were told that there would be a wait which we were fine with. Almost 2 1/2 hours later we were finally served our meal which was sub standard. Definitely would not recommend this place to eat!!

The Vic is great value and the owners are doing it up beautifully. Not too fancy or modern, retaining all the charm of a country hotel but clean and comfortable. Meals are good - would be even better if breakfast was served. Terrific that it is now airconditioned.

The boobs bikes and bubbles was a fantastic package and great value. Very friendly people especially the wonderful Sarah and meals at Mrs Browns restaurant delicious. The bike ride to the winery and for lunch was doable especially for someone who had not been on a bike for 20 years.
