Recently refurbished and now managed by Rob and Rachel - this is now a classy place to go in Magor Square and looks great inside and outside. Decor is chic and with comfortable and stylish furniture to replace the old 'traditional' bar style. Great colours throughout in the bar, lounge and restaurant and it feels like a classy bistro pub.... More

Stopped here on a sunday afternoon on our way back home to Pontypridd from Southampton. Stopped for Sunday lunch. The pub had just had a re-fit from what we were told and looked lovely, with plush leather seating and old wood burners, could just imagine it on a cold wintry night. We rang to book on our way about 2... More

And so, after many months of anticipation culminating in it being closed for a short period, the new look Golden Lion opened its doors on Friday 27th April. It was well worth waiting for - what a transformation. Gone is dark, tired décor and clutter, replaced with lovely cream and olive hues, smart, comfortable leather sofas and discreet lighting. The... Went here just on a whim as somewhere to meet up with family half way between where some of us live. Very suprised by the quality of the food and the service offered by the young staff. The owner should be very happy with what they have achieved. We were a group of 5 and no one had any complaints... More

On a recent trip from Wales, stopped at restaurant of The Golden Lion in Magor for a light snack. I had the most delicious plate of potato wedges ever. Beautifully presented with an interesting salad, sauce and lots of cheese, these were a far cry from the usual offerings one gets. Drooling just at the thought. Partner loved his dish,... More

Myself and my husband stayed in Magor for the Ryder Cup. A friend told us about this gem of a pub. It is so cosy and welcoming. We ate there on the Sunday night Nachos are a must. We had such a choice of food and everything was top notch and the service was fab. James the owner took the... More

Did not stay in the hotel but dined in the restaurant. Excellent food, well cooked and well presented at a sensible price. The menu is not extensive, but is well balanced and there are also daily specials. The dishes are imaginative and well flavoured, using locally sourced produce, and the quantity is excellent. A definite must when in the area!
