We were staying over the Easter weekend at Coed Cae across the toll bridge from the George III, and it was an easy walk over the bridge to the hotel. We eat in the hotel for two nights. The food we had was of a good standard and reasonable value for money. Over the two nights we tried, meat, fish... More

Having often used the George as a drink stop whilst walking in the area, I was looking forward to actually staying there. It's location on the banks of the Mawddach River alongside the wooden toll bridge is stunning with views across to the hills opposite. Be aware that the bridge closes early evening and if you are coming from Barmouth,... More

I recently stopped in to the George III for a bit of lunch with some friends after a hike around some of the local hills. Upon entering I was immediately impressed by the cozy atmosphere and welcoming staff. Considering the nature of our mornings activities we chose to warm up with a pint of the local brew which was a... More

OK Having read the reviews I was a bit apprehensive as 11 of us were there for a meal before walking Cader Idris the next day.. Yes initially the staff were not the most friendly and a bit abrupt BUt the food was excellent and very good value, AND most importantly the staff mellowed as the evening progressed. I do... More

There was a large group of us celebrating my friends 21st. I wasn't at all pleased with one in member of staff in particular as i found her very rude and snotty. It was a surprise birthday and one of the members of the group had bought something with her by accident and we all started laughing, and AVOLA came... More

An absolutely wonderful hotel! We stayed on Valentines night and had a lovely meal - probably the best that I have ever had out at a restaurant! The staff were very friendly and helpful. A beautiful location over looking the estuary. Very close to some excellent mountain walks and the sandy beach of Fairbourne. Right on the Fairbourne to Dolgellau... More

I can only comment on service and food. My daughter and I had an evening meal there on 20th and 21st January 2012. Very welcoming and a lovely open fire. Over two evenings we had startesr of garlic mushrooms and bruschetta, pate and toast and a mackerel salad. All delicious. For main meals we had lamb shank, belly pork in... More

This hotel overlooks the estuary and has fantastic views. Its an old building with a seperate annex. Very friendly and helpful staff . . We paid £110 B&B for a room in the main hotel. It was a small room and poorly decorated - it appeared to have sufferred rather than benefitted from DIY with patchy repaired plaster on the... More

Lovely rooms overlooking the estuary. At crucial times , though, such as before breakfast and before teatime, the water was cold. Not an enticing prospect in December! When I enquired as to what was happening the man on reception said he'd go and boost the boiler. This didn't work in time for our getting ready to go out. Next morning... More
