This hotel was highly rated but slightly disappointing when we arrived to find it in a back street away from the main action, without good views over the wonderful harbour scene. The hosts were superb and very welcoming and friendly but our room was small and old fashioned, with little niggles like the dado shelf and other niches in the... More

We visited only for a meal and did not stay the night. Let's start with the good points. At the Highland Cottage restaurant (also a B&B) you'll receive a warm and friendly welcome, attentive service and a very relaxed atmosphere. If you were just expecting the advertised 3-course meal (4 choices per course with the accent on local fish, local... More

The moment we arrived we were greeted with smiles and a pot of tea. We were offered another room due to our height and the size of the bed in the room we booked. Food was of the highest quality, definately have an evening meal at the hotel. David and Jo were excellent hosts, offering help and advice when needed.... More

Tremendously warm welcome from Jo and David who were excellent hosts and we certainly appreciated the offered pot of tea served in the lounge on our arrival. Jo's cooking was fantastic (believe me I am fussy as we live near several Michelin starred restaurants) and special requests were not viewed as being a problem. Luscious breakfasts and delicious dinners more... More

We stayed for 3 nights, it wasn't enough. David and Jo are brilliant hosts and they have created a wonderful haven of peace and comfort. We had dinner on our first night and ate well. Local ingredients, thoughtfully presented and beautifully cooked by Jo. She also does a mean cooked breakfast too! Both David and Jo are mines of information... More

The friendly welcome and attention to detail is amazing. So often missed from the British hospitality industry. Coupled with food and wine of the highest standard, this is an experience not to be missed

We had dinner in Highland Cottage. The food was good and well-cooked but not exceptional. The surroundings left something to be desired, in our view. The dining room has no windows, is crammed with an unusual collection of brick-a-brack and tables are adorned with plastic flowers. Scottish music provides the background noise which although a bit corny is slightly welcome... More

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights, dinner, bed & breakfast on a tour of the Hebrides. We enjoyed our stay. Owners, David, Jo and their daughter Catriona who was helping them out, were friendly and engaging. The hotel (in my book it's a small hotel, not a B&B) is very comfortable with some touches of luxury such... More

First time but not last time staying at the Highland Cottage with Jo and Dave in the room Nantucket, could not have asked for more, a warm welcome that lasted throughout our stay, very attentive, excellent food, helping in every way to make your holiday as good as it gets in making travel arrangements / information / tickets etc., the... Booked a table in the dining room for a special occasion, staying locally in a cottage for a weeks holiday and wife's birthday. Ambience, host, food, wine were all excellent, locally sourced food had real favour with the balance just right. A very enjoyable relaxed evening
