Had a thoroughly enjoyable 3 night stay at Kilmeny. Upon our arrival, we really enjoyed afternoon tea - beautiful baking and presentation - and Margaret was able to provide us with tips and guidance, where we asked and kindly booked dinner for us at one of the conveniently local eating establishments. Breakfast was excellent - a fabulous selection and delicious.... More

This is a wonderful place to base your trip to Islay. If only all guest houses / B&Bs were like this. Great attention to detail. Very Scottish; welcoming tea and scones; fantastic breakfast. We took one of the suites and it was as good as anywhere in the country. Even a wee dram in the room! Margaret really went out... More

As soon as we got to the B&B we knew we were in for a lovely stay. We travelled to Islay on the late ferry which meant we arrived at the B&B around 8:30 in the evening. Margaret was there to greet us and to show us to our suite at the back of the property. She also brought out... More

The place even manages to make you forget about the weather. You will want to relax on a rainy day and discuss with Margaret. When the shower stops, the convenient location makes it very easy to visit the island, especially if you arrive at Port Askaig. All in all, the most difficult moment was to leave the place!

Looking for accomodation on Islay I found a guesthouse, which The Scottish Tourist Board had found worthy of five stars! How can you believe it´s possible to find a five star guesthouse in the countryside on a remote island as Islay! How can it be true? After having been welcomed by Margaret, after having had a delicious meal the first... More

My wife and I stayed here on the last leg of our honeymoon in Scotland. Staying at Kilmeny on Islay was the perfect way to conclude a wonderful holiday. We actually made a booking at another B&B and there was a mixup - we were very fortunate to have found an alternative at Kilmeny. We were offered the suite, which... More

Kilmeny is in a lovely setting with extensive views. We were greeted by the charming and very solicitous Margaret, who offered us tea. We were booked into the Apricot Room, but were shown to the Gold, a spacious, long room with eaves and £10 more but worth the extra. It was immaculate, with lots of comfy chairs, a large bathroom... Excellent from start to finish - There had been a slight mix-up with our booking but Margaret bent over backward to get somewhere for my husband and myself to stay for 2 nights which she did and when we did arrive at Kilmeny we were given tea and cakes in the sitting room before being shown up to our room... Dear Lindsay and Robert, Your kind review is greatly appreciated. I wish there were 6 stars for the excellent food and service we experienced at the Kilmeny Guest House. My wife and I stayed here in the midst of 2 weeks in Scotland. The people were lovely (both perfect owner Margaret and the other guests). Margaret and Blair are the nicest hosts you could meet, they really genuinely want you... More

This is an excellent place to stay if you aim for quality and an extraordinary environment. Margaret is a perfect host providing a very professional and and warm atmosphere. From Kilmeny you can easily discover the whole island day by day. The dinner Margaret provides on request on Tuesday and Thursday is an experience by itself. Don't miss it! Bernd... More
