Marion, the owner, went to endless lengths to help us out when we needed accommodation. She and her staff are friendly and very helpful. The food is excellent and the range of local whiskeys and beers is outstanding. In all, excellent value for money.

This hotel has low ceilings, fireplaces, small rooms, local patrons in the two small pubs, a wide selection of whiskys and local ales, and friendly knowledgeable staff. Fireplace, historic photos, good advice. Steps from the Kennacraig to Islay ferry, in the center of village, close to a shop and post office. Parts of the hotel date from the 17th century.... More

We arrived off the ferry from the mainland, with only four hours to spend on Islay. As you do in small Scottish villages, we made straight for the pub which of course is part of this hotel. They could not have been more helpful, arranging for a taxi to take us on a distillery tour (Laphroaig, well worth a visit).... More

Let me just say first that we did not stay at the hotel. It was not a convenient location for us. However, the restaurant was suggested to us by our innkeeper as the best place to get good seafood on the island. We took her advice, and so glad we did! This is not gourmet food. This is seafood a... More

Had lunch in Port Askaig Hotel on Sunday 8th April - Easter Sunday. I had expected it to be busy but we were served very quickly. 4 of us in total and not a complaint amongst us - very unusual. You could tell the fish and the squat lobster were fresh and the soup was lovely as well. Will definitely... More

The rooms were basic, in need of some attention - which I gather is promised... but the passing trade hasn't been great over the past couple of years. The highlight was the restaurant food. Fresh lobster, giant clams and steaks to die for. For eight guys on a cycling / whisky tasting tour, it was just the job.

Had a meal before getting on the ferry and the fish was fantastic. The chef made a scrumptious veggie pasta dish for me on request without hesitation. Well priced and friendly service. Will be back.

This is one of our favourite hideaways in scotland. We went here in October and November and we just love the place. Tucked away in the bottom of a gorge in Port Askaig on the island of Islay. It is really olde worldey and so reminds me of tucked away places I used to go as a child in the... More

We stayed here with 5 Islay- Friends for 2 nights in November. The rooms where o.k., nice, warm and clean. Full Scottish Breakfast with a great view to the ferry terminal and over the Sound of Jura was a big start every day. The public bar is well equipped, the menu offers local fish as well as traditional scottish diners.... More
