I don't know what was better, the scenery, the breakfast, the comfy beds or the owners, Kenn & Carol. We stayed at the lodge in November, and enjoyed every second. The fire was always going, the rooms were small, but SO clean and comfortable. Heated mattress pads? That is a FIRST. The lull of the creek, the rustic, quaint lodge,... More

We were on a road trip and wanted 5 nights in the Rapid City area to explore the many sights driveable in a day from there. Having stayed at the Alex Johnson right in town before we fancied something different - and this certainly was! First impressions of the room weren't that great as it was very small (and Carol... Serene location, fantastic service, delicious and beautiful food, clean, cozy and comfortable rooms. My ladies group rented out the entire lodge for a weekend retreat and were so blown away that we promptly reserved it for next year. A PERFECT place for a reunion or retreat.

This place has all the charm of the inn in the movie White Christmas. Add to that the sights, sounds, and smells of the Black Hills and you have a small preview of what heaven may be like. Carol and Kenn must love their work, as shown in their genuine warmth and hospitality. Some rooms are small, but that's okay... More

What a great place to stay, it deserves it's #1 ranking. Carol is a wonderful host and incredible cook. There were cookies and bottled water in the room when we got there, and she let us take a cooler and soft drinks to the Badlands the next day where it was 104! Our room was large and had a flat... Returned to this very special place as a central location for sight seeing in South Dakota. Warm, historic, and the best breakfasts ever. Comforting to hear the river flow by at night. Can see Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Black Hills, Deadwood, etc. and come back to this fabulous retreat and sit on the veranda in the evening. One of my... More

Arriving from Europe after a long flight it was a bit difficult to find in the dark but once we got there - far too late because they close at 8 pm - Carol greeted us with the utmost charm and hospitality! She even offered to help us with the luggage. We were shown to our room on the second... More

If you like the sound of a river, sitting on a deck sipping coffee in the morning or wine at night -- If you love great breakfasts and good conversation -- this is the place for you! The rooms are small, but there is plenty of sitting places in the lodge or out on the upper and lower decks that... More

The Duncans are wonderful hosts and Carol produces a magnificent breakfast. This historic lodge is being renovated, but it does not interfer with a relaxing, quiet evening listening to the creek on the veranda after a day of sight seeing. It is a convenient location to Rapid City, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy horse and the surrounding area. If you want to... More

We were extremely pleased with Hisega Lodge. The serene quality of nature that surrounded us left us with a relaxed peaceful feeling. The owners were especially helpful when our trip was delayed and we wandered into Rapid City a wee bit late. After a good night sleep we awoke to a scrumptious breakfast that was fresh and inviting! You do... More
