The chestnut cottage was the first stop on our honeymoon and we were not dissapointed! Our room was charming and the breakfast in bed was delicious! We look forward to returning on our anniversary!!!

The innkeepers greeted us upon arrival at 9pm and served us a wonderful breakfast the next morning (strawberries and cream, eggs, sausage, tomatoes, cereal, milk, juice). We enjoyed touring the historic property after breakfast and learning about Mary Chestnut. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Boykin_Chesnut for a preview.

I personally love the history behind the Chesnut Cottage, and likewise me and my wife adore the hospitality of Gale and Sherwood. The rooms are quite nice, and breakfast is really, really good. We have taken at least two anniversary trips while staying at the Chesnut Cottage, and have stayed there on several other occasions. It is genuinely our home... More

I thoroughly enjoyed my short stay at Chestnut House. I never want to leave Columbia when I visit my son attending USC. Gail(sp?) and Sherman are intuitively attentive, allow privacy, and lived up to everything promised. They have an ability to feel your needs whether its alot of attention, need for conversation, or to be left alone---they can help conversation... More

We stayed in the Jeff Davis room and did not experince any of the problems of the prior reviewer although the lights could have been brighter and I had to borrow a glass from the kitchen for the bathroom. The food was fine and the inn keepers freindly and helpful.

Columbia is not a city noted for B&B's but the website for this one looked very nice. However once we arrived we quickly discovered that The Chesnut Cottage has a lot of potential but it doesn't bear much resemblance to what we saw and read about on-line. We stayed in The Jefferson Davis Room, which appeared to be decorated with... More

My husband and I stayed at the Chestnut Cottage for our wedding night! It was very quaint and true to time period. We either had an extremely long night or the bed was extremely comfortable! :) Probably a mix of both. Gale was great... they asked us what we wanted for breakfast and delivered everything to a T! .... it... More

Chesnut Cottage is one of the best B&Bs we have experienced. Gale is a delightful and thoughtful host, full of excellent information about Columbia, stories about the house and its history, and gracious hospitality--he even mailed me a jacket I had left behind when we departed. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, and the house is located in the historic... More

One of the most pet-friendly and hospitable Bed and Breakfast's on the East Coast. We were headed to Columbia for an event at the Metro Center and brought along our two Jack Russell's. We were afraid we might have to skip the event because of the dogs barking but Gregg refused to let that get in the way of our... More

The Chestnut Cottage Bed and Breakfast was a great place to stay in Columbia, S.C., and made us feel like we were temporarily living in the middle of Confederate history. The house, which was apparently almost demolished back in the 1960s before being saved and preserved, was one of the war time residences of Confederate General James Chestnut and his... More
