This home has the original hardwood floors and plastered walls. It's too bad that the walls are decorated with cheap dimestore pictures and tacky old drapes. The pillows are stinky and need to be replaced. My husband's back went out after sleeping on the bed. It's in a good location - you can walk everywhere in the historic district. After... More

If you have researched room prices in this beautiful city, they are exorbitant. This B&B was moderately priced for the City and location. Wonderful hearty breakfast, different each morning, that is homemade and excellent quality. The breakfast would be 20.00 at a hotel, and not nearly as good. Offers tea every afternoon, with a yummy dessert. The strawberry shortcake appeared... More

The location of this 7 room B&B was great, just far enough off King St to be out of the hustle and bustle traffic, but a super easy walk to King St to all kinds of shops and restaurants in this great city. Check-in was easy, the staff were all VERY nice and accomodating. The sweet tea happy hour was... More

Beautiful and comfortable surroundings teamed up with the most gracious, friendly staff. 'Tea time' was a perfect break in between all the touring. One word of caution - if you bring a car - try to get a compact one; that will help with parking at the B&B and throughout your travels in Charleston!

I preface my remarks with the admission that I am a retired innkeeper: Recently I spent a week at the 1837 Bed and Breakfast. The owners of the inn and their staff were very hospitable, breakfast was delicious and an alternative option was always offered and appreciated because I do not eat meat. The room I occupied was large and... More

We appreciate all reviews, as they help us better serve our guests, and thank these guests for their many positive comments. We do keep bath glasses in our rooms, and wine glasses and corkscrews available. Due to our unusually cold and wet winter this year, we are approximately 8 weeks behind with our annual porch painting. Also, pollen season has... More

Rooms are spacious without being large and lost; would have liked to open windows, as the temperature was agreeable to external air; but understand this season is very limited; breakfasts and staff are exemplary, and will reurn to this B & B the next time we visit Charleston. Walking distance to all downtown; only left off street parking lot to... More

We stayed here for two nights, and wished that we could have stayed longer! Everything about the 1837 B&B is wonderful. The rooms are so beautiful - like stepping back in time, but with super-comfy beds! (This was by far the best sleep of our three weeks in the US.) We loved that the breakfast is different every day, and... More

We stayed there one night and found the décor and interior very charming. The staff was extemely friendly, maybe almost a little bit too eager to push their opinion of what to do and where to eat and how to behave in Charleston ;-) Plus the breakfast was a slight disappointment, from the internet description we had expected more and... I've stayed at the 1837 House at least 25 times by now. Rick and Lynne own the house, but Jane must be in the will she has worked there so long. They are extremely hospitable, the house and rooms are great (I have stayed in all of them but one) and I have had a wonderful time using it as... More

We enjoyed a two day stay at this B&B just a few blocks off of King St. The vibrant life of the college campus adds to the character of the experience. We walked all over town and returned to our room periodically with shopping packages since it was so close. Our breakfast were hearty and got us off to a... More
