We rented a tent only site for two nights. Ours was the last one available when we booked (a week ahead), so book early if you would like your choice of spots. The sites are more expensive than some (ours was $30 a night), but this may reflect either upkeep for the park facilities (lighthouse, nature and visitor's center, trails).... More

We were there in March of 2013 and there was an incident where three rangers got drunk and the law had to be called. According to the local newspaper there was a fire arm introduced. I heard through the campground grapevine that the head ranger was involved. It sounds like there are some judgment issues here. My family and I... More

I have traveled to Hunting Island State park at least twice a month to camp. Is 320 miles trip from Myrtle Beach. Is the beast campground that I have been to in South Carolina. Spaces are large and clean. Some showers need little work but after going there many time we learned which showers pressure and hot water work best.... More

This park is on a remote barrier island. Clean and well equipped campground. We stayed in a tent right next to the ocean. The sites here are quite unique. This area is remote so you will want to come prepared however there are a 2 restaurants nearby.

During our campground experience this winter, Hunting Island State Campground was recommended by fellow campers. I made reservations at this highly popular campground and we arrived for a four day stay. Even though the arrival was a bit tricky, once we arrived and set up, we were absolutely amazed at the beach. The beach was all natural with fallen trees,... More

The sites are very close together and except for some in the back loops lack privacy. The bath houses are antiquated and need to be updated. Most of the bath houses lacked heat and were drafty and cold; they had NO provisions for drying your hands - no towel dispensers or even hot air hand dryers; the shower stalls lacked... More

Nice place that is well run. Lots of rv's so tent campers beware. There are several walk in sites but they were booked when we tent camped. Beach is nice especially during low tide. Look for sharks teeth in small shell areas along beach. We found more than a few.

This campground is in a magificient setting. East drive from I95 through Beaufort which in a nice little city with everything you could possibly need. The park is away from all that commercialism and right on the ocean. The campground staff is mostly volunteer and they are super friendly and helpful. The sites are large and for the most part... My Wife and I just took our 5 yr old son for a weeks stay at this wonderful campground for his march break. The only complaint I have was out of anyones control, it was a little cold, but at least that kept the mosquitoes at bay. We camped in site 167 which was right in back, sheltered from the... More

Spent 5 nights at the Campground, had a wonderful time. The staff/ volunteers were very friendly and helpful and the site we had (127) was very private. The other sites were somewhat more open but were closer to the restroom/ showers and the beach. My only disappointment was the restroom/ showers, they need work to say the least, the design... More
