I would have to agree with the other reviews on here that state that the hotel is past its best and in need of refurbishment. generally decor is in poor condition and finishes in the rooms to a low quality. So given this why have I given the hotel an average rating? Well it is down to the excellent staff... More

I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times as it is convenient for visiting my sister. It is a shame that to enter the hotel from the car park you have to negotiate through the smoking area. Not a very nice welcome especially if you are a non-smoker. The room was shabby but it was clean and the... More

My stay was added at the last minute to a break already planned as I was traveling to Oxford with my wife to meet family. I had not been to Calne before and I chose this location as it was near to Avebury. This main issue with this hotel in my experience is that the decor needs renewing. A costly... More

Having paid £50 per night to stay at this hotel I was bitterly disappointed at the cleanliness of the room in general and condition of the bathroom. Parking is severely restricted in the court yard. Wi-fi connectivity was not very reliable. On the positive side - the breakfast was very good.

On arrival a dirty courtyard carpark welcomes you before you have to negotiate the swearing smokers by the entrance to reception. On safely making it to reception we found it unmanned, and had to search for a member of staff to check us in. The room was very dated with shaby torn wall paper, a filthy carpet full of hair... I stayed in the Hotel from 13th to 18th October 2011 and I was allocated roon # 242. My problems with this room were as follows; Bathroom was shabby and badly in need of redecoration. There was no shaving mirror. The shower overflowed after three minutes and I had to keep turning it off to allow it to slowly drain.... More

Stayed for 2 nights on business, the room was cosy, good ensuite, comfy bed, tea and coffee facilities and tv. It was a bit noisy due to its location on the main road, and could have been a bit cleaner, Good breakfast & lots of choice, dinner was tasty too, friendly staff, nice log fire.

Yes the decor is dated but the pricing is keen. We asked for a quiet room and the manager (admittedly not immediately evident on arrival at reception) allocated a very big room at the top which was fine and clean and the shower worked. Dinner was a good value steak and chips; a bottle of wine cost £7! Service was... More

The hotel is very dated. Whilst the bed was clean and comfortable the room was very very dirty. When you park you have to work through all the smokers which congregate out side the back door. Staff friendly and helpfull. But never again.

I recently had the misfortune of staying in the Lansdowne Strand Hotel. My room hadn't been vacuumed for days; the bathroom was disgusting: shower waste clogged with hair; pubes everywhere; thick layer of dust; bathmat and floor dirty, shower partitions filthy; (I went to the local supermarket to purchase cleaning products to clean the bathroom before I used it); someone...
