My wife's 75th birthday and our 56th wedding anniversary were coming up! Where to go? We live in central Oregon but knew little of the southern Oregon coast. Looking for a nice place to stay for a few days the Compass Rose kept appearing as the best place! We had never experienced a B & B previously. What a great... More

The owner is the builder, the cook and the housekeeper. His breakfest is great. His service excellent, the building new and modern. The house has pretty well furnished rooms and beds, on the first floot breakfest, housing with a wood fire, kind of library. On the second floor the rooms and a great collection DVD movies. The forest belongs to... More

My husband and I visited the Compass Rose back in June 2011. When we decided to go back to Oregon in September 2012 we knew exactly where to stay. Doug and Karen take such good care of their guests. The breakfasts were delicious. Doug had some great suggestions on where to eat, visit, etc. I loved the biscotti that Karen... More

We turned out to be the only ones for the night and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The weather was too windy for a venture through the woods and after a quick trip to the beach (which was also windy, due to an incoming storm) we decided to hunker down for the night and enjoy some quiet time together. Doug... More

Superlative in every thoughtful detail. The hosts were exactly as attentive as you would have wanted them to be, in a B&B setting. The silence and peace factor are nearly unsurpassed in our experience, for this type of lodging. Hugely enhanced by the carefully groomed 'secret' wildlife trails, with walking sticks lovingly leaning at the entrance to each one. When... More

We stayed here In July 2012, it was a delightful stopover. The beautiful house was welcoming and we learnt how to play backgammon whilst here. The beach is a short walk away and the house is within its own private grounds and trails. Breakfast was brilliant and then we were visited by a deer and her fawn. Then we received... More

On our annual anniversary trip up the Oregon Coast we stayed at the Compass Rose (Captiva Room). Our room was immaculate and light with a beautiful view of the forest and lake. Ocean beach was a 10 min. walk down up th street. Doug and Karen were terrific. Doug not only made some amazing breakfasts but was well versed on... More

We booked for two nights based on the positive reviews on TA. The house was nothing special. The décor was very uninspiring. The room was basic and lacked such common items as a decent reading lamp and even a wastebasket. There were none of the little “nice touches” of other comparable B & Bs…not even a bottle of water in... More

The owners of this B&B have taken pride in everything to the smallest detail. Doug even told me he built the fabulous dining tables himself when we asked about them. The place is super clean and the rooms are large and the breakfasts are delicious. The zucchini bread was the best we have ever had. It is easy to find,... More

Summer has sped past like a meteor this year, but as the arc of summer closes I’ll offer this tardy (and hearty) take on our stay at The Compass Rose. The first time I sat down to write this review I was overwhelmed by the many positive adjectives I could use to describe our stay. Today I’ll try to be... More
