We stayed in the Tasman Hideaway which is self contained. The fixtures and fittings were a little tired but everything worked. It was quite cold at night but the heaters and the electric blanket worked well. The small kitchen was manageable as we cooked dinner there one night and made breakfast both days.

Spent a single night here on the way to Strahan. Really historic area, feels like it's a million miles from Hobart. The lodge is set in spacious grounds next to river parkland, great views from the upstairs windows. The beds were very comfy and the rooms were tastefully furnished. The owners were very helpful with recommendations about attractions and dinner... More

My daughter and I visited Explorer's Lodge in April and we were warmly welcomed by Liz and Nigel. The accommodation was quaint and spotlessly clean and we had everything we needed. The breakfast was plentiful, hot and delicious and cooked to order. All in all a relaxing, homely and comfortable stay in a convenient location to explore Richmond and Mt... More

We spent only one night here on our tour of Tasmania, and only regret we didn't stay longer. New Norfolk is a very historical and interesting place to visit, but also a good base to see other parts of Tasmania. The Explorer's Lodge was tucked away in a very beautiful part of town, not far from the river. Our accommodation was... More

This was one of the best bed and breakfasts we have stayed, everything was perfect, highly recommend, would go back again if visiting Tassy in the future. Facilities were all as described. Breakfast was delicious and fresh :) lovely area to explore too.

I stayed here recently on a trip to investigate one of my ancestors, who was Governor of the island in the 1840s. The hosts were very very friendly and relaxed: it felt like staying with friends. The breakfast with homemade jam and fresh fruit salad was excellent. They gave me information about the local area regarding my ancestor and some... More

It was such a joy to come to Explorers lodge after 5 nights of motels. Liz and Nigel were so welcoming and as we are in the same trade back in the Uk we had plenty to chat about! No two B and B,s are the same, the individual styles make for the experience, we can learn from each other... More

We stayed in the Tasman self contained unit which is on the rear of the main house/b & b so if you like privacy it is a good option. The bedroom was very spacious, comfy bed and lovely sitting in the small lounge area overlooking the gardens with a glass of wine. If you like to self cater for food... More

Thank you for reviewing our self contained unit and we are pleased you found it spacious, comfortable, clean and relaxing, and that you enjoyed the homemade bread. We agree that it needs new carpeting. It is on the redo list for 2013 as is a general spruce up. However, we feel that your comment about the ceiling is an exaggeration. More

What a delightful stay we had at this beautiful home. The hosts were fabulous with an easy-going manner. My only warning is that our room was located up a long flight of stairs which made carrying several heavy suitcases (our fault) a bit tricky. If climbing is a problem for you, perhaps ask if there is a room on the... More

Thank you for your complimentary review about our lodge and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. A few points about the staircase for other possible guests: 1. It is only one storey up. 2. It is of regular width with railings on either side and a landing three quarters up. 3. There is always someone to assist... More

My daughters and I had gathered for my Dad's 80th birthday and stayed in the self-contained accommodation. It was lovely! Master bedroom (and bed) is huge and the extra bedroom provided more than enough room for the four of us. We had our own lovely sunroom with a little balcony overlooking the pretty gardens. Liz and Nigel were most accommodating... More

Many thanks for your report back on the Tasman Unit. It was a compliment to host your family’s second visit and we are pleased that you enjoyed the garden and the rooms. There is a soundproof fire door between the unit and the B&B section which was inadvertently left open during your visit. We do apologise for the disturbance that... More
