On 7 May 2013 I visited Hodsock in the evening. It was a 'Secrets of Hodsock' event. Great fun and very interesting. I would strongly recommend this to history lovers and those who enjoy a 'behind the scenes' visit in large old houses. George made us all feel so comfortable and relaxed. Beautiful home...steeped in history and intrigue.

George Buchanan - owner and occupier of Hodsock Priory - personally escorted our group around the public part of his lovely home. The tour was very informative and interesting. We all though it was excellent value at £15 per person. We visited all the public areas and also the wedding bedrooms and the cellars. George is obviously working very hard... More

We have been to Hodsock a few times, once to see the snowdrops and another to see the place our nephew was going to get married. What a lovely place and setting for a wedding. The weather was kind to us and the staff were brilliant. We stayed overnight in one of the ten bedrooms in the courtyard. Friends and... More

We attending my brother wedding at Hodsock and flew over from the US and Argentina. I can honestly say the entire experience there was lovely. The people were extremely friendly and the location is breathtaking! The tradition of the mansion matched with the comfort of the hotel was really something out of a childhood fairy tale. I am honored to... More

Visited for a wedding and couldn't rate it highly enough. Beautiful, spacious rooms which were clean with great facilities. Very peaceful so no distractions when trying to sleep. Delicious breakfast. Overall, fantastic and highly recommended.

Our 1st visit to Hodsock Priory was on March 1st. We had a bit of trouble finding the entrance because of the signs up for a wedding fair. I appreciate that its rather late in the snowdrop season but we were somewhat underwhelmed. The place was overall much smaller than we were expecting, and the woodland area was not particulary... Thank you for leaving feedback on your first visit to Hodsock's 5 acre snowdrop gardens and 14 acre woodland walks. It sounds like you got into the spirit of a winter stroll in the woods - stopping for one of our made-to-order bacon butties by the bonfire. This year we have plans to extend walks from the gardens around the... More

The weather was perfect and plentiful snowdrops. A delightful walk.Changes since our last visit included a new marque style cafe and portable toilets. Seating had been reduced around the fan lawn and so nowhere to sit and relax. George Buchanans talk was very good. Big let down was the cost of food. Whilst some looked very inviting a soup for... Thank you for letting us know your thoughts - we're really pleased you had good weather and saw our extensive displays of snowdrops on your walk round Hodsock. We have shuffled the seating around a bit this year to places where visitors enjoy relaxing and taking in the scenery - there will be even more places to sit next year,... More

There are really two different sorts of review on this one webpage: the travel/holiday accommodation and the grounds. We visited for the "Snowdrops"- but not only thousands of snowdrops: for a fiver, you can walk round some fascinating early spring gardens with a great variety of seasonal plants, set around this splendidly isolated and rather quirky Victorian brick house, built... Thank you - you've given us a boost by reading your review. We have split some of the critics this year so we're glad you felt we offer a good value day out in the countryside with plenty to see. Our woodland cafe is the perfect spot to enjoy a cuppa and a bacon cob, next to the bonfire in... More

It was a very cold weekend but the welcome from staff was warm. The snowdrops in the woods were delightful and the gardens were an early spring delight. The history talk from George Buchanan was informative and interesting. The craft and food fairs were enjoyable. My only criticism is the cost of the catering which was very expensive and poor... Thank you for your kind words about your visit to Hodsock - I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed the atmosphere, the gardens, the snowdrops in the woods, the history talks and the food and country fair. I visited Hodsocks on Saturday with a friend. The day was cold but the welcome from all service providers [ the Buchanon family and staff ! ] was warm and cheerful. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your visit, with our warm welcome and extensive walks. The history talks have been well received and have helped us explain the gradual changes we are making at Hodsock to make us fit for the 21st century visitor. Thank you for recognising that the 2012 wet weather has done a lot of damage... More
