Hethpool House is ideally located on St Cuthbert's Way between Kirk Yetholm and Wooler in the stunning College Valley. Our stay was a slice of tranquillity as we were warmly welcomed into this beautiful Edwardian house where the past meets the present. Nothing was too much trouble for Eildon and Martin, from the home-made cakes and scones served on our... More

We have had a most idyllic stay at Hethpool. Martin and Eildon were most warm welcoming and witty hosts. The house is a beautiful peaceful haven with stunning countryside on the doorstep. The food was absolutely wonderful and we can't wait to return. Roaring fires , feather pillows, no cars or street lights, fantastic wild life. Bliss!! More

Wow wow and wow. After a good stomp through from Mount Hooly we arrived rather muddy and windswept to a wonderfully friendly welcome at Hethpool House. Cups of tea, home made short bread and a gorgeous roaring fire instantly relaxed the muscules and revived the feet! Eildon, Martin and family made us very welcome and we relaxed straight away into... We were a party of 5 and arrived soaked through and quite early in the afternoon. Eildon made us immediately welcome, washing and drying our clothes for us and providing tea and homemade biscuits (whilst apologising that she hadn't had time to bake fresh biscuits that day yet!) We used all three guest rooms in the house and found them... More

Thank you for your review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay. As you said the weather was pretty awful when you arrived but it isn't always like this and we have had some lovely weeks of blue skies and hot summer days. Looking forward to welcoming you back next year Thank you] Eildon More

I have read the other reviews and cannot believe they are about the same house! We arrived and were shown around but not welcomed in any way. The lady of the house was out. The house is in the same style as when it was built in 1919. Apart from a shower that had been added the plumbing appeared to... More

Thank you for your review and please accept my apologies for not being there to welcome you personally. We try really hard to provide good quality food made from local produce and I was delighted to hear that you had enjoyed our cooking. I was sorry to see that you did not like the plumbing. You were absolutely right to... More

We stayed at hethpool in February 2011, a gift from our daughter. The setting is on St. Cuthberts Way and is a walkers delight. The country house is wonderfully quaint and full of character. We received a warm welcome from the hosts Martin and Eildon and the accommodation was spacious, clean and comfortable. We took advantage of Dinner cooked by... More

For peace and quiet in remote rural Northumbria, look no further. Outstanding service and food. Eildon even did my laundry! More

We really enjoyed our brief stay with Eildon and Martin at Hethpool House. The accommodation was very good, the views (especially from our bedroom) superb, and Eildon's cooking excellent (as I am sure she has often been told before). But best of all was the friendly welcome and relaxed atmosphere at Hethpool. It really felt as if we were spending... More

A lovely place to come to after a 12 mile walk on St Cuthberts Way. Very peaceful , very relaxing. Won the award for the best welcome on the route - beautiful home made gingerbread and tea served in the visitor's lounge. Log fire there later in the evening when we had dinner. We stayed in the cottage so didn't... More

Very quiet and off the beaten track. The owners grow, make or locally source wherever possible. Lovely homemade biscuits, marmalade and lemon curd. Rodgrod? (fruit soup/puree) made with homegrown fruits. Excellent porridge, given the choice of whether to have it made with milk or water. Freshly squeezed orange juice (not carton), best sausages of our trip (in most places they... More
