No air conditioning in room & located directly opposite health club fitness studio blaring music out from 6:20am. Never got a minute's sleep as only provided with small electric fan which was also noisy and simply moved sweltering air around the room. Bathroom was almost too hot to stay in for longer than the time to use the loo! Very... More

I stayed for 2 nights recently on a business trip. It is a nice quaint hotel with a bit of character. Very good value for the rate paid. My room was ok, lacked natural light. Staff were friendly. Food was nothing special but adequate nevertheless. I didn't get to check out the leisure centre but I was told by a... More

The hotel has certainly seen some improvements since staying here ten years ago. Back then it was very over-priced with minimal reinvestment in the actual rooms - motel quality really and typically "Rip-Off Britain". However, my wife and I stayed here in September 2011 and were pleased to see all the standard amenities that you would expect in a hotel... More

Ive now stayed at the Oaks a few times...since recently becoming a member of Best western they have upgraded some of the rooms and public areas. Its very traditional but the staff, (especially reception), are very helpful and you are always made to feel welcome.

We arrived at The Oaks Hotel and checked in, we were given room 254 and directions to our room, when we finally found the room after a bit of a hike around the stairs and corridors, we opened the door to find a room which seemed to have held a party the night before. Beds were'nt made, a mattress on... More

Stayed in room 152 which appeared to be a disabled room. Room was tidy but outdated and needs updating, bed was not good either. Breakfast was very good and staff on reception polite.

Stayed here for one night for a function. The room was clean and of a good standard with a comfy bed. Good breakfast. The only disappointing element was the very slow service at the function with a long wait between courses.

I stayed here with my husband as it was near to the venue where our friend was holding her party. The hotel is a lovely old building with a large hallway and a beautiful stained glass window above the staircase. The staff were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough. Our room was clean as was the adjoining bathroom. Guests also... More

Good things about this hotel: Some good food: goats cheese starter excellent - enough for two in fact, and poached eggs cooked to perfection; staff very friendly; bed comfortable. Free wi-fi worked well; no connection problems. House red wine very pleasant. Not so good - well quite a lot. Had to wait at the unattended desk for check-in: only one... More
