The Master Builder himself would be disappointed that his name has been placed on such a dull block of rooms built more in the style of every other modern hotel rather than that of the main buildings, although there's been an attempt to give a "classic" feel by fitting them out with old, but not antique, furniture. Overall the staff... More

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that you were disappointed with the newer Classic bedrooms. I too wish all our bedrooms had the character of the original 18th century rooms in the main house; unfortunately they are hard to duplicate. I do hope you will return to The Master Builders to try one of the Luxury or Chic... More

We adored the location of this hotel, it was quite something sitting in the sunshine in the beautiful beer garden overlooking the Beaulieu River... The hotel itself is stunningly unique with a fascinating history. It reminded us of one of our most favourite hotels, the legendary Argonaut at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. However, the Master Builders was even more... More

Master Builders lacks managerial direction, hence the low standard of housekeeping, our room was unhoovered & undusted, which was done upon our request. The general maintenance of this charming building is rough around the edges, there is a lack of attention to detail. The absence of bar nibbles with our pre dinner drink was apparently due to "non delivery", totally inefficient... Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent stay with us at The Master Builders.  I am so sorry to hear that we have let ourselves down in a number of areas particularly that the cleanliness in your bedroom was not up to our expected standard.  The hotel has recently undergone a number of changes... I’m a big fan of this hotel’s sister site at the Bath Arms. We decided to book into the Master Builder’s because we had some business to take care of nearby and we felt like broadening our horizons and seeing what this admirable little hotel chain can deliver beyond the constraints of Longleat. There was a bit of trepidation for... More

Thank you for your review of the many positive aspects of your stay. I am so sorry to hear that you were slightly underwhelmed by the food and for the rather rude awakening of the oil delivery, it is certainly not the norm for them to deliver at that time. More

having been given a gift voucher we chose to go to the New Forest. On checking the area for hotels we came across The Master Builders and what a good choice this turned out to be. The location of the hotel in Bucklers Hard with the River Beaulieu flowing by makes it a fantastic place to stay. The added bonus... More

Nice old hotel, stayed in the main building in the 'Victorious' room 19. Good view out over the river. Not much really going on in Bucklers Hard but it is a good base for seeing the delights of the New Forest. The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff were helpful and friendly. We had one evening meal in... More

The Master Builders is an ideal place to explore the gem that is Bucklers Hard....full of history, character, nature and next to the water. The hotel is full of character - open fires, splendid views onto the Beaulieu River and the quirkiness that you would expect from an old building. We paid a £20 upgrade and stayed in the Agamemnon... Lovely weekend at the master builders. Good food and a fantastic setting. The main building was great but the Henry Adams wing is past it's best but did suit us fine. We were a large group and they looked after us very well. Price of a glass of wine in th bar was a bit steep.

We were given a buyagift voucher and picked out this hotel purely on the looks and location, we had no prior knowledge of it. We upgraded to be in the main house and ended up in room 32 "Fervent", and it was an absolute delight!! Quaint charming and inviting, with a stunning view (and access) to the river. Excellent location.... More

My girlfriend got a buyagift voucher as a leaving present and we decided to spend a few days in the New Forest. Following some comments on this site about the Henry Adams wing, I paid an additional £30 per night to upgrade. We got a very spacious room at the top of the building - I am 6'4" and the... More

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. As you say our top rooms are in the eves so probably not ideal for your height; we do have a number of 2nd floor rooms in the main building which benefit from full ceiling height and some fantastic views of the river.
