Initial trepidation after reading some reviews, as the boyfriend booked it last minute, as every other hotel locally (with pools which we both love) was booked out. There's a separate block of outside rooms, and by far the best are the ones at the back for peace & quiet, rather than the ones over looking the car-park. Rooms and ensuite,... More

Cheapest rooms in an area where we wanted to stay. With some trepidation we arrived and were pleasantly surprised to find very clean, tidy and comfortable rooms. A great restaurant with good food and very pleasant staff. Sound insulation in the outside rooms probably not as robust as it should be but we are pleased that our neighbours enjoyed themselves,... Thoroughly enjoyed the lunch and ambience of the restaurant. Recently refurbished and in pristine condition. We were there for just after 12.00 mid week and thus it was very quiet and, not surprisingly, the service was good. As such we were not able to see the restaurant whilst busy but can imagine that at weekends it becomes crowded and I... More

An impulse Groupon purchase took us to The Angel – advertised as Alton but actually several miles south. Our room was a decent size and simply but adequately furnished (heating in the bathroom would be a good addition). Breakfast was buffet style (rather limited selection on the non-cooked side). The restaurant seemed very popular in the evening – probably because... More

Popped in here for the cheapo carvery, and found it to be edible. The staff were a mixture of polite and disinterested, and we had to wait 45 minutes for a table. My fault for not booking. As per another review, the yorkshire puds were black, the cauliflower cheese was dreadful, but at least the beef was well cooked. If... More

Generally, on balance, we rather liked this place. It grows on you! Refurb'd autumn 2011, it looks tidy and is generally clean (but with some glaring oversights on dust traps). Pleasant common areas such as sofas around log burner in bar restaurant. Open and spacious, nice ambience. Carvery good value at £5 (£8 Sunday), easy ample parking. Our bedroom was... More

On arrival the staff were very helpful and attentive, this remained through the stay, at the bar and restaurant. The room was pleasant as was the ensuite. At first glance the room was clean, but with toothpaste on the tiles and sink, perhaps the cleaners need to be more attentive. The constant humming coming through the wall throughout the day... More

At the start the Carvery was good when the first chef was there but has gone down hill very rapidly now ......over the last few weeks the Yorkshire Puddings were black every week the so called roast pots were just mushy and as for the coli cheese then wouldn't feed it to my dog.

We arrived to be greeted by friendly staff. Room was very clean and bathroom nice too. Looks like it's been refurbished recently. Kettle in room with teabags and coffee. Iron and ironing board too. The bar staff very friendly and made sure we and other customers were happy all night. 3 course meal delicious and full English next morning. Very... More
