We stayed in one of the garden chalets - very spacious with sofa as well as a huge bed. Lovely tiled flooring, underfloor heating in bathroom and very generous sized shower. Bar area very dog friendly; our mini schnauzer had a great time. Restaurant food was just gorgeous. The owner bakes her own bread too. We had a lovely lovely... More

This is the second time that we have stayed at The Anchor, again in one of the spacious garden rooms which are light and airy with a small terrace outside each room with table and chairs to catch the sun. I don't recognise the spiders etc - our room was spotlessly clean. The staff are charming, friendly whilst being professional... More

I recently stayed at the anchor with my partner for our anniversary we found the staff to be friendly and very helpful . And as for previous review from cycle this is a bed and breakfast not a hotel although for the standard of the rooms it could be. The food was great and as I have allergies nothing was... More

Stayed here recently on a suffolk cycle tour. We stayed at 5 hotels in Suffolk and Norfolk, the Anchor was the most expensive, but by far the worst. As a pub it is fine, the restaurant food was fine too. My comments relate to the rooms over the pub, and the place as a "hotel". On our arrival, after a... More

Visiting Walberswick, we dropped in to The Anchor following recommendation. A Hotel with garden rooms, it is a 1930's style building of no particular architectural merit which has grown over the ages, sited at entrance to village with extensive gardens at rear and with views to coast. Good car parking at rear and side. Entered via gardens with suntrapped terraces... More

My partner booked 2 chalets 1 for us and 1 for our friends.Upon our arrival to our chalet we were greeted with bird droppings on the door! Anyway opened the door, we were pleasantly surprised how spacious, airy it was. Then reality kicked in! The bathroom hadn't been cleaned properly for a while, your usual cobwebs, dead ants and a... We stayed in one of the six garden rooms which are warm and spacious and set in an attractive garden. Visitors bringing dogs can stay in these rooms and dogs are welcome within the pub's bars. The bathroom was a good size and was clean. Toiletries consisted of shampoo and body wash and ideally I should have also appreciated conditioner... More

We stayed in 2 ofthe super chalets in garden of The Anchor with three adults and six children under seven. Despite the cold wintry weather were very warm and cosy and the staff could not have been kinder and child friendly. Safe gardens to play in, children's room and wonderful food. A walk to beach and short drive to Southwold... More

I had the battered cod which was an average size portion but greasy. Friends had the fishcake which they said was too dry. Another friend had baked cod with mussels in a sauce. The sauce had too much butter and cream in it ( my friend is a professional chef) all in all it was pretty average and slightly overpriced... More

The food here is always good. The menu varies and is sesonal. The restaurant is well set out and has a good atmostphere. However, eating outside can be a bit hit and miss. I know this is a busy spot in the season but it would be made a little more pleasant if tables were cleared and litter picked up... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A village pub with a difference. Our addiction to fresh, top quality, locally sourced where possible produce, combined with a thirst for excellence have evolved into what has been described as a "must go to place on the Suffolk coast." Our approach to food is robust; we want to put on each plate satisfying combinations of flavours and textures. We have a good range of characterful draught beers, and numerous world class bottled beers, organic soft drinks and over 150 drop dead lovely wines from some of the earth’s most inspired winemakers. We offer the same menu throughout, with more formal Restaurant dining on a bookings basis and more relaxed walk-ins, in the Bar. We also have seating for 150 outside on three terraces, with table service available for those warmer days. Our renovated flint barn is a highly versatile space, equipped with a drop-down screen and a projector, ideal for business meetings, strategy reviews, team building exercises, corporate training, presentations, film showings or private parties to mention just a few of its uses. It has been put to good use in the cause of village based charity fund raising projects as well as providing the theatre for Food Safari events, cask beer festivals and the Aldebrough Doc. Fest. fringe event weekend November 2011. Free time relaxation can include everything from Golf at several well established Courses, to Horse Riding at Bramfield Equestrian Centre, Sky Diving for all levels at Beccels, Aromatherapy in walking distance or sea fishing of Walberswick Coast with Mark Felton. Beer Academy and WSCT (Wine and Spirits) educational courses are available by arrangement. Our Hotel Accommodation: We have just undergone a thorough renovation of our Now Cedar Clad Chalets, enhancing the environment in which to enjoy the Sea View. We offer 10 rooms in total, 6 spacious en suite room garden chalets, as well as several room options in the main building. All the rooms have a large flat screen TV, with Freeview and IPod Alarm Clock docking Stations. Ample free parking is provided with direct access to the beach, Dunwich Forest or the Marshes. RSPB Minsmere, Southwold and Aldeburgh are all close by. ... more   less
