4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2012 NEW

Having a rare couple of days off we headed to Melrose and booked into the North Star Hotel. Our accommodation the "Red Truck" very clever, quirky and comfortably cosy. The Hotel manager and her staff were very friendly and helpful and found the locals to be the same. We dined in the restaurant and the meal was absolutely beautiful. With the... More

If you had a way to have a different holiday stay, would you? Let me tell you why. Some weeks ago my youngest daughter went on line to check out hotels in the mid north of South Australia in the lower Flinders Ranges. With some suggestions she settled on Melrose, which by the way is the oldest town in the... More

We stayed for one night in one of the balcony rooms, which are very comfortable. The hotel has had a lot of work done on it and is a great mixture of old and new. We had a good dinner and the staff were good. A great place to stay on a cold autumn night. I thought it was reasonably... More

We spent a night at the North Star and were very happy with our balcony room and with the friendly and relaxed service we received. Nadine, one of the new lessees, was lovely, as were all of the other staff. Dinner and breakfast were both also very good. Don't expect luxury. This is an old hotel and the rooms are... More

I cannot remember the last time we stayed in a hotel we were so disappointed with. No, disappointed doesn't even describe it. Disgusted is more like it. And we (appallingly) paid over $200. North Star looks GREAT on the internet. But as soon as we arrived, we couldn't wait to check out. First, there's no staff to speak of. You... More

This hotel is overpriced, does not meet expectations, and the owners seem to think that architecture and designer furniture are a substitute for hospitality and service. We booked in the Red Truck, for the fun of it. The advertised en-suite is actually out-suite, across a walkway about 1.5 meters wide, very exposed to the weather and very dark at night... More

This could have verrry easily been a four and a half star review, but I'm left with a dim attitude toward the management of North Star. Friends made the booking for the two couples of us for an overnight stay in the Truck Accommodation, which has to be seen to be believed. It was brilliant... cottages built on the backs... More

Not what I expected, room dusty, mixed bag of facilities, great bathroom, no TV, no tea making facilities. Great location. Restored pub that looks great on the outside. Sorry, but I expected more.

This place is perfect for parents who want to experience some nice food, wine, company and scenery while keeping the kids happy too. The food was excellent (only complaint - serves were huge!) and great local wines, and the kids spent the whole weekend finding frogs and lizards at the creek 2 minutes walk from the pub. Our group of... More

We went to Melrose since my hubby is a mountain biker. A good friend of his has an affiliate bike shop in Melrose, and that's about it for the town. We arrived in Melrose on a Sunday after a huge country music festival, so perhaps the town was just worn out. However, there was absolutely NO hospitality on the part... More
