A great place for basic accommodation. Good for a bed and shower. Definitely not luxurious but good budget choice. I stayed after a friends wedding and it was clean and tidy. The staff were also lovely and check in was super easy. I stayed in an upstairs room but they have little chalets/cabins for more privacy.

Good value room in the main building. No lift so a little hard for us with our luggage. Room was very small and smelled very musty otherwise would give a higher rating. Comfortable bed. Excellent position right in the middle of Hahndorf. Lots of places to eat including the Old Mill hotel itself.

We stayed 4 nights and used Hahndorf as a base. This was an ideal place to stay. Central Hahndorf and easy to walk around the town. The room was comfortable, clean and plenty of room, but you have to climb stairs to get to the rooms. Our stay was pleasant until the last day when we dined in the Hotel lounge. We were told in strong terms that our custom was secondary to a bus load of tourists and that our food would be delayed by 30mins. It took an hour for our food to arrive. We would have accepted the delay but the way it was conveyed to us repeatedly that our custom was secondary to the Bus tourists was depressing and spoilt a great time in Hahndorf.

Pre Covid was the last time I and family members ate here and the Smorgasbord selection was amazing. Today 15 family members arrived and No Smorgasbord but set menus to select from. After making the orders we then waited 75 minutes before orders arrived. Not one of my 15 family members were happy with what they had ordered. The presented food was badly prepared and presented. All 15 said they would not attend The Old Mill restaurant again. The Mill management need to lift their game and perhaps go back to the very popular Smorgasbord menu. Very disappointed and disgruntled family get together. Give this place a miss.

Clean room but there it stops. We contacted them because of the price advertised online 130 AU$, when we tan it was 160. Once we arrived and paid we were told the internet was a bit up and down but it was non existent and, for that price, no breakfast. Unfortunately we would not stay here again.

If you are looking for quality accommodation at a reasonable rate then don’t look here. I don’t usually do detailed reviews but this place requires it. This review ia for the “chalets” at the back if the hotel. Pros- Great location for exploring Hahndorf. Good bar with a pool table that we put to good use. Cons. Not really a chalet, more a motel room and not a great room, the whole set up reeks of cheap. Cheap furniture, cheap curtains, cheap old tv, cheap bed. Originally looked at the “family” room, my advice is don’t, it’s one room with a queen and two singles, pretty average at best. Room was not particularly clean with a wet towel still hanging up behind the bathroom door, a funky mould smell coming from the kitchenette cupboards. Toaster didn’t work. Fridge freezer was overdue for a defrost about 3 weeks ago. Curtains weren’t blockout so plenty of the light from the carpark beaming in through the window and the door glass panels. Check in was chaotic with the staff unable to concentrate on doing one task at a time, trying to look after multiple tasks and not doing either well and then they stuffed up the booking by not booking for the original duration of 4 days and only for 3 days, thankfully the manager was able to sort it out. Only reason I gave it two stars was for the pool table and the manager looking after the messed up booking. My advice is look elsewhere.

We stayed here for one night and one night was definitely enough. The hotel is in a great location for wandering the streets of Hahndorf, but that is about where the positives end. The room was old and needed a lot of TLC. The walls were thin and there was a large gap under the door. There are glass panels in the door that let the lights shine in all night, so if you want a dark room, this isn't the place for you. The paint was peeling off the bathroom roof and the fan was activated via the "light" switch, not the "fan" switch. The only way to turn the fan off was to flick the mains switch, which luckily was located within the room. Otherwise, we would have had the bathroom fan running all night. There was some weird pipe running into a drain near the toilet that wasn't overly inviting. There was no kettle in the room, but the lovely lady working the bar was kind enough to give me two cups of hot water and organised for a kettle to be delivered to the room. There was about a third of a roll of toilet paper left for us and no more rolls in the room, which we, unfortunately, didn't realise until late into the night. We had to resort to using a box of tissues, which was not full either, so by the time we checked out in the morning, we were raiding the tissues from the car. The room price probably would have been almost okay if we weren't charged the extra person fee of $30 odd dollars. This made a family room over $180, which is definitely not worth it. I'm not sure why they need to charge for an extra person when we were a family of 4 booking a room that sleeps 4??

For $75/nt you got what you paid for. A roof over your head, hot shower, reverse cycle air conditioning, fridge and TV. Good location, on site parking. For that money I won't complain it could do with a refresh. Drawbacks: Lot of street noise, music noise coming from downstairs. Paper thin walls, WiFi hit and miss. The staff seemed like they could 'top themselves' at any moment. Strange practice of photocopying your credit card and driver's license and just leaving it in a tray near the till. ( Probably why my credit card was compromised the following few days? Suggest you check you bank statement after staying there for an extra flight to somewhere. ) But ha you want cheap you got it.

I stayed at the Old Mill for work. Admittedly, I did choose the cheapest room, but it really wasn’t much good. Whilst the basic nature of the room was bearable, it was a few other factors that made the stay a little disappointing. Firstly, bedheads in the rooms are against the shared wall and the walls are thin. Lest say you can hear everything from the amorous couple next door (first night) and the screaming child at 5am (second night). Also, the decorative lights outside the rooms/ part of the street frontage are on all night and the room curtains are not block out material. Hence the rooms are quite bright, even with the spare blankets draped in the windows. I’d suggest if you’re considering staying at the Old Mill, book one of the other courtyard rooms or ask for a room not next to anyone else.
