We spent 3 nights in the Spa Room for my Birthday and during the entire stay the Managers Sharon and John were just amazing in making our stay memorable. Sharon baked a birthday cake to my surprise and a hamper was slipped into our room on the big day, John provided us with fire wood so we could cook a... More

We were very impressed with our stay at the COEL. The managers there, Sharon and John, were fantastic, they were very helpful to us as a family and also to the group of people we went with. They basically bent over backwards to make us all feel welcome and so at home. I also like the fact that the place... More

We were rapt with our stay at COEL. The new managers, Sharon & John, were so helpful for our group who visited, and our own family as well. Nothing was too much trouble and every need was catered for. The rooms were a great size for our family and all facilities were in close proximity to the rooms. Good food,... More

If you ever go to Chillagoe to see the caves. Stay at the Eco lodge. The hosts are friendly and very helpful with information regarding the area for things to see and do and booking any of the cave tours. They even went to the hub to collect the tour tickets for us. Now thats service. We camped and the... More

We booked into the Chillagoe Observatory and EcoLodge last minute, expressly because we wanted to watch the once-in-a-lifetime alignment of the planets Jupiter, Mars, Mercury and Venus in the early morning sky. Chillagoe is very dry most of the year and, due to its altitude and remoteness, is reknowned for being an exceptional location from which to star-gaze. On a... More

When we heard "ecolodge " we were not expecting what we encountered however we discovered one of the most friendliest and inviting places to stay. The managers, Dave and Helen, who have only been there a short while, were most welcoming and accomodating from the time we arrived until departure. Nothing was too much trouble for this couple, they arranged... More

Chillagoe is a remarkable place and certainly a place to return too. The eco-lodge is excellent value for money and we found the staff friendly and knowlegable about the area. We had an excellent buffet meal at night and breakfast was great (who can go past bacon and eggs). Our room was great and thankfully was airconditioned and had an... More

The drive out alone the Wheelbarrow Way is very scenic, and the gravel road quite passable in a normal sedan car, but the lodge was a big disappointment. Both the observatory and the restaurant were closed, so the only place to eat was the service station roadhouse in town. The room was small, not very clean and incredibly, there was... More

We went up from Cairns for the weekend and wanted somewhere to camp for the night; we chose this place because it sounded lovely and it was! As we were camping, I can't comment on the rooms available, however I can say that the camping area provided at the back of the property was excellent! Plenty of space, lovely clear... More

The Chillagoe Observatory & Eco Lodge sounds very impressive and on paper sounded like a nice change of scenery whilst on our honeymoon. When we arrived we discovered that the observatory was closed and was likely to stay that way until April 2010 (if I remember correctly) so that was the first blow. A sign advised that if dinner was... More
