I stayed in the double room in the dive lodge for two nights. The lodge itself is an old queenslander so sound echoes throughout but as all are usually diving the next day it is not too bad. I would highly recommend the double room as it has outside windows so fresh air. The dive outfit is excellent, attentive and... More

I stayed at the dive lodge for three nights at a cost of $25 per night. I shared a 6 bunk bedroom with between 1 and 4 guys over this period and would say it's typical backpacker standard. Everyone was respectful of their own space and the room has excellent AC so absolutely no problems at all to live (and... More

As an experienced diver and dive professional who has been fortunate to travel and dive in many dive locations in Australia and overseas, I was extremely impressed by Yongala Dive. My partner and I stayed in their queen room at the dive lodge. There is also a bunk room which sleeps six. The lodge was clean and comfortable with a... More

I picked up a leaflet in a travel agent for the Yongala lodge offering a deal consisting of 2 nights stay and 1 morning trip 2 dives on the Yongala Wreck. I later found out that in order to dive the Yongala you could either take a 3 hour boat ride from Townsville or stay here and take a 1/2... More

To dive the Yongala you have a choice, stay in Townsville and travel 3 hours to the site by boat, or stay in Ayr and take 1/2 an hour. Having done the first before, we decided to try the second. Yongala Divers Lodge is NOT a 5 star hotel. It's a Queenslander (wooden house built well off the ground) with... More

Besides the bunk room a Queen room is available with its own TV. But bathroom facilities are shared with both staff and guests: toilet room is separate from the tub/shower-and-sink room. Only one toilet and shower for the entire lodge, which could total 14 people. Communal kitchen. Towels for hire at $5. Can use washing machine for free if you... More

The diving was fantastic, but we would highly recommend anyone who is not a backpacker to stay somewhere else and travel to the Dive Lodge for the dive rather than stay. We didn't manage to get much sleep as we didn't feel like joining the party that seemed like it might be a regular occurrence at the Dive Lodge. The... More
