Really nice traditional old pub which brews its own ales...Lovely food & great atmosphere. Perfect location for a country walk & drink!

The lodges here were lovely. The staff and owner were all very friendly, but left you alone when you wanted them to. The lodges are at the back of the John Thompson pub, in a lovely little village. The lodges consist of bathroom, bedroom living/dining area. The day we went it was typically cold, but soon warmed up with the... More

I only stopped here for 1 night on a business trip but wish I could have stopped longer. The pine lodge I stopped in was tastefully furnished and very clean. You get cooking facilities (cooker hob and microwave), fridge with freezer compartment and separate double bedroom. The bed is quite low but very comfortable. Overall it makes a change from... More

Just had 3 nights at one of the scandinavian log cabins, what lovely cosy cabins these are.The welcome pack was a nice touch and when you run out they just give you more, how good is that. There was constant hot water with a decent powered shower. We took our 14 year old son and he has asked if we can have have one... I had travelled past this place many times over the years in my job, but as I was driving I couldn't sample the ales. One day I was researching the Swarkstone Bridge as it is an ancient monument and there was a link on the page for The John Thompson Pub and Brewery. I followed the link, liked what I... More

Stayed 2 nights whilst visiting friends. Absolute delight. Unfortunately didn't get chance to sample the pub. But will be returning very soon. Highly recommended.

Cannot comment on rooms as we have not stayed here. We and a group of friends like to frequent the John Thompson as we are all fans of the real ales brewed on site. Our last visit was just before Christmas and once again we thoroughly enjoyed the ales, the log fires and the comfortable surroundings. Our visit was tempered... More

This pub and the accommodation are fantastic. It's not a minus because you can play around it, but they only do lunch and the menu is , shall we say minimalist. That said, it's very nice. We stayed the saturday night (there is o evening food) but as a party of 7 of us, we were staying in the log... More

Arriving earlier than expected, we were still shown to our own timber cabin that flanked the car park of the Inn. The rear side of the cabins have broad views of the trent valley from their advantage point some twenty feet above the flood plain. A true countryside idyll. Birds singing in the trees and the smell of the countryside... More

Went for just a few days to get away from it all. ... Booking was so easy emailed and got a reply within the day. Staff were so friendly whenever we saw them. The lodge was so comfortable and had everything that you could need. I know it sounds silly but they even had nice big towels. DVD player was... More
