I booked the George for my son's christening - never again! We have used the pub for family meals and always been satisfied with the food. I booked for a christening and arranged that all our families ordered and paid seperately for sunday lunches - in total no more that 25 covers - it was 2 hours beforethe last table... More

These are people who booked the Function room in January for a Christening and did not pay the £100.00 deposit to secure the room, that we request within 14 days. After several telephone messages they still didn't pay the deposit so the booking was cancelled by ourselves. The week running up to the event the lady came into the Hotel... More

We booked in as a group; and were looking for a cheap weekend away. We weren't expecting to find the George to blow us away, as it wasn't expensive (£190 for B&B for 8 people). The bar area has recently been rennovated and it was quite a nice and welcoming start to our stay. If you head to the George... More

The George Hotel is a simple place to stay but is very out-dated and old. £60 for a double room for a night is too much for this standard of hotel. That said, the staff at breakfast were very friendly & helpful.

Seemed ok till we had to spend any amount of time in room. Shower would be better if water came out of it at a good temperature and not as a cold trickle. Woke up a few times in night as we were so cold , duvet wasn't much use , found spare blankets next morning :0( door to room... More

We stayed here for one night and I asked for a double room. We got a double room but it was tiny, (and was two single beds pushed together - so no cuddling in the middle!) you could hardly walk round the bed and there was a wall heater on the wall that you had to be careful not to... More

I stayed here with a work colleague for a few weeks in November and December and found it to be very good value. The rooms are clean and warm with good TVs and good internet access. Also they are properly serviced every day. Breakfast is great, full English, and if anything else is required, just ask! The ONLY problem that... More

4 of us went for lunch here today. Unfriendly bar staff, third rate coffee, and 2 inedible meals. The baguette was white as a ghost, meat inside was awful, and although my friend ordered a pannini, this was exactly the same as my baguette. No-one enquired if our meals were okay. A complete waste of £12. Never go there again.

On arrival the staff member serving behind the bar was obviously under pressure as she was on her own attending to customers in the bar and the hotel reception. (what reception) We checked in, in the public bar and then had to carry our luggage through the bar to the stairs. The room was adequate if a little on the... More

Stayed for one night as we were at a wedding in Glossop. The staff were friendly and the room was clean. I nearly cancelled after reading other reviews but I am glad I didn't and for the price I was surprisingly satisfied. As mentioned before the room was clean as was the bathroom - which wasn't dim and dingy and... More

We have stayed at the George twice now and by coincidence had the same room both times. Our room was quite small but very comfortable with a decent supply of tea and coffee sachets. Although at the front of the hotel, on a fairly major road, opposite the railway station, our room was quiet and had proper blackout curtains. Both... More
