Stopped here on Friday 23rd March 2012, and was impressed by the real ales on offer and the good pub grub. One of our party was ill and didn't finish their meal so the staff provided a doggy bag. very welcoming and a traditional feel.

This review is for the restaurant only. On what seemed to be a busy night in the bar area we were seated in the restaurant section at the rear. Food was quite slow to arrive but it was delicious, with ample portions.

This review is for the pub/restaurant only. We came at the beginning of our coast to coast walk, very friendly and open atmosphere. W had a traditional faire of meat platter and Cumberland sausage, all very satisfactory.

the room we had was rather small and noisy as it was above the front door. We discovered however that several weeks after we stayed the hotel was being taken over by other people so this review is probably irrelevant now

i used the hotel for business trips for 7 years and found the hotel excellent. until it changed hands. standards did fall and several contractors and myself found alternative accomadation. but the good news is that the hotel has been under new management for over a year now and it is pulling back all the trade that the previous owner... This was the first night of our Coast to Coast walk. The accommodation was OK, the rooms are very small (after the en-suites were put in), and being on the main road was a bit noisy, but otherwise fine. The food downstairs was a disappointment, probably the least palatable we had over the whole walk.

We visited a few pubs in the village during each day of our stay to get a feel as to whether to return later in the evening to eat.
