Very disappointing, we were led to believe that was a great place for a break, but the room was pokey and there was a great lack of attention to detail. Place needed a good clean and tidying up. Food was spoilt by large greasy thumb print on plate!

This is our second stay in this hotel and it will be our last. On our first visit last year we thought the room was basic but clean - none of the usual things you would find in a hotel room - a chair, hairdryer a wardrobe that closed etc etc. but we were supporting our favorite charity and meeting... First time visit to this area with friends. Found the hotel to be located in a beautiful part of Cumbria amidst breath taking scenery. Found Dave and the rest of the staff (although limited in number) very friendly and efficient, even lit a fire by request of my wife whilst serving meals. We shall be back later in the year.

Recently stayed in a garden room which was very disappointing. I can honestly say it was the worst room I have ever stayed in. Very cold and uninviting. The Managers were not very friendly and didnt interact much with the guests which is odd considering the business. The bar and reception was often unmanned which suggests there are not enough... Enjoyed our annual visit to the above to support a fantastic charity!!! The staff as always were friendly and helpful and our room was clean and comfortable though the bed was a little soft for our liking. Breakfast was plentiful and the evening meals we had were very good. The setting is quite spectacular and is one of its main... More

Stayed for two nights as we have done in previous years. Room was clean and although the beds were softer than we are used to they were comfortable. A well stocked hospitality tray which was replenished fully for the second day. The evening meals were very good and could not be faulted. For breakfast there was a good selection of... More

Stayed for 3 nights over Easter, our room badly needed decorating and the mattress was old and lumpy. We ate in the 1st night, but meal was poor, husband's steak was tough and my butternut squash was supposed to be with courgette roulade. It was in fact a dollop of courgettes & tomatoes!!! does the chef know what a roulade... More

I can't fault the willing service and helpfulness - it's a nice place to stay and our room was fine. But there just aren't enough staff to allow mealtimes to be a pleasure. With walks in the superb countryside here one gets hungry and up for basic home-cooked food. Unfortunately the cooking was all over the place, sometimes superb, sometimes... More

We are sorry you found the food to be "all over the place" however we pride ourselves on producing good quality home cooked food and feel we achieve this well as many of our customers have told us. We have a pastry chef who has never bought in a dessert in the 33 years that she has worked here and... More

We should have stayed for a Valentine Weekend in 2011. We had to cancel within the allotted time and the receptionist Gail told us there was not a problem and we would be able to arrange another date. However, the Manager, Malcolm took the full amount of our weekend accommodation, including meals, which were untaken from our bank account. We... More

This matter was dealt with over 12 months ago by the manager at the time who has since sadly passed away. The business is now under new management. We think it is highly innapropriate to post a second reveiw as the manager at the time made his feelings quite clear both to the customer herself and by replying to the... More
