We stayed at Stanley House for a family 60 th birthday, there were 30 of us from babies to Grandad's , the house was good value, plenty of room, very well equipped, never seen so many plates, cups, cutlery etc, massive fridge, cooker, owners supplied, lots of bread, milk, .there are no local shops! Bring your own food if you... More

Open fire, great location, bit quiet if you want some night life, good pubs and eating places a short walk away. and the owners will, we understand arrange a lift to and back from the woolpack if you eat there. Lady who comes in to cook breakfast is lovely, and generaly all staff we met very pleasent. Very comfortable. Got... More

We stayed for the Easter weekend as a large group of 20 adults and 6 kids. With this many people, the house was ideal and much better than where we stayed with the same grop last year. The dual 'living rooms' allowed us to have a separate kids area when we were inside and the large gardens made outdoor activities... More

Positives: Amazing location, great for walks, beautiful grounds, imposing property and comfortable lounge and drawing room. Large bedroom and most importantly for us was that this B&B was dog friendly, that's why we chose it. Although we liked the 'help yourself to our well stocked larder', we found it decidedly limited in its stock. Negatives: For £100 per night (we... More

You get what you pay for in life, value for money yes, 5 star no ! still very pleasent stay. I would even go as far to say the best in the area at this price range from what we saw. The big rooms front of the guest house, but fairly quiet road so not a problem, lay back ,and... More

Stayed here for 4 nights over the Whitsun bank holiday with my partner. Spectacular drive via Ulpha to get to the house - as the other review says do not be tempted to take the Hardnott Pass route, unless you're familiar with it! First impressions were not great as we were greeted by a locked front door upon arrival, even... More

This B&B is situated in a beautiful area of the Lake District. Downstairs lounges and the dining room were lovely and welcoming but upstairs reminded me of an upmarket youth hostel. Sorry! We were on the top floor, good job we are able bodied as there was no other means of getting up there but the stairs as far as... More
