We knew Lauries wasn't going to be 5 star but we were very pleasantly surprised. We arrived around lunch time in pouring rain, we drove up to the reception to see if we could check in and were greeted by a very friendly lady, we apologised for being early but she said that was no problem, she asked if we... We stayed here as part of a tour, so I cannot comment on the prices. We found the rooms to be very basic with little to offer as far as comfort, above that. The location was nice, as we enjoyed the town as a whole. The restaurant was an enjoyable experience, mainly due to the staff. A good sense of... More

My husband and I stayed at this property recently and it is way overpriced for the quality. Very old and basic - needs a facelift. Not even an iron and ironing board in the room. Most hotels provide some toiletries - this hotel gave one small bottle of shampoo - that's it and limited bath linens. Nothing special about the... More

There's nothing wrong with "serviceable" and that's just what Laurie's is: no more, no less. Unfortunately, their advertising (and prices, which I'm beginning to understand are normal in three-season Cape Breton) suggests a far more interesting or comfortable place. We paid premium for a "harbor view," which also included a view of the parking lot, a front building, the street... More

Cheticamp is great but the service and value of Laurie's is not. When we checked in the attendent made us feel like we were seriously inconveniencing her. One of our party rented the 109 per night room but had to upgrade to the 149 per night room because the first room was so bad. And the 149 per night rooms... More

A lovely facility, somewhat dated but very well maintained and clean. Free wi-fi in the rooms. An excellent restaurant on site. The staff is excellent and very friendly, as are all the folks of Cape Breton.

A large hotel, including different buildings. We asked for a room with view and got a room on the second floor, with a view of the harbor. This meant having to use a steep staircase, but was worth it. The room was OK, but whoever equipped the rooms, did not think some travellers enjoy reading in bed at night. So the... More

Stopped for one night while touring the Cabot Trail. Out of all the hotels we'd stayed at during our east coast trip...this one was the most expensive for what you got. Breakfast was not included. We were in the 2 storey part and I must say the view from the outside corridor balcony facing the water was awesome....especially the sunset.... More

Came with a tour group. Rooms clean and comfortable. Area fun to tour and restaurants offered varied tasty menus. Breakfast at Lauries very good -actually had linen napkins and the feel of old time resorts. Enjoyed a laid back tour of a place that is tourist/fishing villlage atmosphere. It offerered small hotel ammenities such as computer access, local knowledge and... More
