Ibo Island Lodge and Ibo Island are for the discerning traveller who want something truly unique. When you step onto the island you are taken back to a time in history that seems to have stood still. There is everything there to make it a magical experience: forts, old churches, a town that now run down shows the splendours of... More

Ibo Island Lodge on Ibo Island is not for those who want a sterile, packaged version of paradise. It is for those who will appreciate genuine warmth and welcome from the staff who are all Ibo locals, spacious, ariy rooms, sensitively renovated and decorated, great food and a rich cultural experience. The island's history is an integral part of this... More

I've stayed at a range of lodges and islands in the Quirimbas, and Ibo Island Lodge remains my favourite. No, it doesn't have the postcard white beach on the doorstep, but that's what makes it so alluring: there's history to explore, and you feel like you are part of a living, breathing island... not in a sterile resort that's been... Hotel fantastic, ex colonial mansion, slightly shabby chic with chalky walls, polished concrete floor and large dark furniture. Rooms large, individual, huge chest with padlock is the room safe! Electricity sporadic . Town to walk around is amazing, children love to see their faces on the camera and tourists still a novelty so the children don't expect anything other than... More

We lasted 1 night. The island has a deeply disturbing history which still lingers via the depressing state of the buildings. Everything seems old and tired, and our room was like being in an old folks home. The food was stodgy and the lodge grubby. Our room was featured on the brochure, but the reality was depressing. I can see... More

We value all feedback as it helps us to evaluate, improve and strive for the absolute best for Ibo. Negative reviews are very rare so we read this with surprise. We are sorry that you felt this way about your very brief experience on Ibo Island. Your impressions couldn’t be further from the ethos of Ibo - and the other... More

the pousada is located on a beautifull bay of the IBO island. The food is very good as you might expect based on the price. They offer nice trips to places around the island. The island can be explored by feet. Like in most places in Africa they follow the traditional path, alternative suggestions do not come up easily. The... More

Our stay at Ibo Island Lodge really couldn't have been more perfect. We did a 4 night dhow trip (organised through the lodge) and then spent 3 nights at the lodge. The dhow trip was spectacular, days spent sailing on turquoise seas or snorkelling and paddling in crystal clear water and evenings lazing around a camp fire with gin and... More

Myself and seven friends recently stayed at Ibo Island Lodge to celebrate a couple of birthdays. We were met at the airstrip by Rob and made to feel very welcome right from the start. The rooms are gorgeous and we soon settled in. We then met Harris and Kissinger who made sure we had everything we needed whilst we were... More

We stayed at Ibo Island Lodge for 3 nights as part of a 12 day trip to northern Mozambique and would thoroughly recommend it. The plane transfer from Pemba to the island offers stunning aerial views of the Quirimbas Archipelago (keep your camera in hand when you board the plane) and by the time we arrived on the island, we... I have just returned home from an eight day dhow safari in the Quirimbas archipelago, organised by Ibo Island Lodge. My husband and I read an excellent article about the trip in South Africa's Getaway magazine and had high expectations when we booked our adventure. The four nights camping on private islands and amongst the mangroves and three nights in... More
