We spent 8 nights in Matemo with our two kids ages 18 and 13. We were a little concerned that the kids may get bored since there is absolutely nothing on the island other than the resort. This was not the case. They kept themselves busy all day with the various watersports the resort had to offer. Evenings are quiet... More

We spent our honeymoon on Matemo Island during December 2011. Our 10 (ten) day stay was a purely relaxing and blissful experience. After the long flight from Cape Town we were greeted by the very friendly staff and the complimentary wet towel was much appreciated upon landing on the island. The entire check in procedure was handled in the impressive... More

If you're looking for a friendly atmosphere with all the luxuries but without pretension, Matemo is it. The staff -all local villagers who have been trained afresh- are delightful and eager to please. On my first night (my birthday which I didn't advertise) I was presented at table with a gorgeous birthday cake. Dinners alternate from being presented on the... More

Matemo Island Resort is well located on the sheltered side of Matemo Island in the Quirimbas Archipelago. Rooms are very well equipped (inside and outside shower, bath tub, TV, fridge, coffee maker, A/C, fan, telephone and safe) and nicely decorated. All chalets are designed for 2 persons only but there are 2 pairs of chalets connected by a corridor; these... More

Arriving from Ibo on a dhow we were walking by the sea side in Matemo. Passing through the bech in front of this "luxury" lodge they pretend it is illlegal. After talking to the security, waiter, manager and chef of the managers they agree that they allowed us to take a bath in a public beach? Totally nonsense. Take a... More

We stayed at Matemo Island Resort just before Christmas 2011. What an amazing experience. From the very beginning and right to the end. Flights were pleasant enough, and everything ran smoothly despite the 3 stops made on the journey. The real adventure began when you step onto the small charter plane which takes you to Matemo Island. From Pemba you... More

We spent our honeymoon (6 days) at the Matemo Resort in Feb/2010 and i really can't find words to express how much we enjoyed the resort and all its amenities!! The 'wilderness' feeling is present all around and the peace of the location is simply amazing... i find hard to believe how can someone dislike the resort and write a... More

I recently visited Matemo and Medjumbe in the Quirimbas Archipelago, both run and operated by Rani Resorts. Here is a tropical island dream come true. I never believed there to be so many different shades of blue. The entire experience, from flying in on the small charter planes to the long languid days on pristine isolated beaches, floating in crystal... More

Powder-white beaches, turquoise sea, unbelievable seafood…. If you’re looking for a little piece of paradise then Matemo Island Resort is the place for you. We flew in from Pemba in a light plane – the views of the sparkling ocean were fantastic. Clear blue water – and if you’re really lucky you may even spot a whale or two. A... More

We nipped over to Matemo for two nights and wished we'd spent our whole holiday there. It ticked all the boxes for a remote island holiday - beautiful blue water for swimming, fine food, secluded chalets right on the beach. Vincent the manager at Matemo is top class. Its an ideal retreat for couples, for groups of families. Accessible via... More
