We were totally disgusted by the condition of the accomodation here. The bathroom was so mouldy I felt sick, it is a shower you come out of feeling dirtier. The shower head was fused pointing towards the wall so you couldnt really get under it. There was a constant stream of water leaking from the tap (very unwaterwise) and the... More

We stayed at the Dampier Mermaid earlier this month en route to Exmouth. We had been seduced by the descriptions of the area and the beauty of the peninsula. It undoubtedly was beautiful years ago before the big mining companies destroyed the environment. We booked the Mermaid on-line where no mention is made of the appalling nature of the locality where fires... More

On a recent trip to see our kids & grand children in the Pilbra, we decided to travel to Karratha for a few days. We ended up staying in Dampier and went to the Mermaid Hotel for diner, what a great choise with a great view. 4 mains and 24 oysters for around $220. Now this may not sound that... More

Tiny shower. Cockroaches everyday. Towels not changed and rubbish bin not emptied. Very apologetic when told about but this is not good enough for the money you pay for a room. More

Our room had just been renovated did have nice decor and a great view from our room. However, the courtyard was covered in furniture that was being removed from the lower rooms so that was disapointing. The reception was not manned so we had to walk through hundred of men obviously just off work to talk to someone at the... More

If this was a normal country motel it would be $75- $95 a night but here it's $230 despite still showing $200 a night on it's own web site ! They have a huge captive Market with the mines etc so can charge what they like. Our shower has a previous guests soap in it, the window above our door... More

My partner and I have holidayed in every state in Australia a number of times. We live in NSW and are middle aged. My fiancee once lived in Dampier but hadn't been back for 30 years so we decided to get married there. We have stayed at eaten in and drunk at many hotels throughout Australia during our various holidays... More

I was put up in one of the rooms that do not face the water... whilst they are run down & old on the outside they have been freshened up on the inside with new bedside tables, a desk, and cupboards. The bathroom is in the original state but it was clean, in worknig order & stocked with clean towels.... More

Like most hotels in country towns they have their quirky issues, i do a lot of travelling around the country as a business rep and stay at hotel motels like this, granted its 40 + years old, but the place has great atmosphere, and character, you meet up with backpackers who come in every three months to work there, the...
